Oh, wonderful. So are snow plows something I'll have to worry about when I move up north too? That story is getting worse than it already is...

Hate to see that happen to a perfectly good Echo. I'm sorry to see that :(

During winter, we get ticketed or even towed depending on where you are, if we park outside overnight or on the way of plows. Is that not so in Montreal? Im in Kitchener, btw.

And yes it does suck, i feel your pain. I have had my car hit by an old lady that lives about 10 houses from me. She didnt even realize she hit me. Witnesses saw her. Cops paid her a visit after another neighbor came in to see me with a license plate number.

Plenty of people park on the streets in Montreal, doesnt give free license to the plow driver to sideswipe cars.
I'm thinking repair costs will come very near what the car is worth.
If the insurance writes it off it will give me an excuse to buy another one.

Here every single time I've parked out, I think I've had a ticket on my windshield the next day, that alone makes me not want to park outside.

Im sure it was an accident though.

Depends on where up north . Where might indicate if you have to drive or not. As much as I absolutely love driving, if I had to live near NYC...and didn't leave very often... (I know, the OP lives in Canada), I might try going without owning a car (all of my previous trips to the area in the last 9 years have been car based). NYC Subway, NJ Transit, PATH trains...all reliable, and good communication with passengers re any changes (I didn't use the LIRR, nor Amtrak, during my just concluded visit). Even with the train travel, I still did quite a bit of walking.....helped re a restful night of sleep.

Nah I'd be out in Rochester, practically the other end of the state. Decent bit of lake effect snow, I think, but not exactly a public transit hub.

Yeah, I think Echos were much more popular in Canada than in the 'states. Finding a clean one may be harder, even the newest one is 9 years old now...

Lake effect snow = (in my book, but probably not for some). In 2006 I was at a what is now known as Fed Ex Office location in suburban Buffalo. I walked outside to get something out of my car. I felt what was starting to come down. I had a hotel reservation in Albany for that night. I had taken delivery of my new blue Yaris a little over 4 1/2 days prior to that moment. Intuition.....I needed to leave immediately. I did. When I arrived at my hotel in Albany, I immediately turned on the television..... (see Lake Storm "Aphid" Wikipedia article). I imagine many media people and emergency personnel were in an even more heightened state of awareness than usual...the previous day Yankees pitcher Corey Lidle or his instructor (the NTSB never did determine who was flying the plane) had crashed a small plane into a condominium building in Manhattan.....exactly one month after the 5 year anniversary of 9/11.

Yikes! I dunno how bad it gets in ROC but I am told that it's not that bad. Or maybe she is sandbagging a little in hopes that I won't hate my life so much when I get there.

The one time I drive in slushy sleety stuff here, the Echo seemed pretty confident though. We get snow, or something which resembles it, maybe once/yr, we ain't got no plows, salt, or sand!

Rochester only averages just under 100 inches per season, so it shouldn't be much worse than Texas.

I can see repairs getting up in the $2K range,
Whats an 03 Echo in good shape worth on whatever book the insurance company uses to determine value.
What really pisses me off is this incompetent plow driver wrecks my car and suffers no consequence to his actions. I called city hall and made a complaint and the operator told me the complaint will be forwarded to the appropriate dept. Yeah sure it will.

Here the interval is about 2-3 years. Also no plows. They did put what I thought was salt (might have been sand) on some bridges last winter. Hasn't gotten to the point of sleet, at least since 2008. Always melts (except re rooftops) the next day.
