Does anyone have any recommendations on what XM radio that I should consider to have installed in my Yaris? I have the XM2go portable but I would prefer to have something permanent. Any suggestions would be great.

You can run a stereo mini jack line (2 male ends) to the ipod interface and use the "AUX" input on your stock stereo.
Sounds better than through the FM transmitter but a higher volumes, has an alternator whirring sound that increases with speed.

I just purchased one of these. Haven't had it installed, yet, but this mounts behind the factory HU, and you can use the factory HU to change stations, etc... If you have a TEXT button on the HU, it displays song info, too, just like a plug'n'pray XM unit.

I bought a portable Sirus radio and it sounds great with the FM transmitter. My opinion is that I would never consider an XM radio because of so many amazing choices with Sirius. Just compare the lineup of both and decide which one to go with.

It usually runs on a fm transmitter that picks up the clear signal in the radio.(Usually 88.9) the aux jack is only for devices with a headphone input like cd players or ipods. it will not show on the lcd screen. ( i may be wrong because i dont have one but im pretty sure)

Let me see if I can explain this better. There are 2 ways to really do XM.

One is you can buy a head unit that is XM ready. Which means your head until turns into the controller so to speak. You can read what song is playing and what not and change/scan through the Xm channels right through the head unit.

The second way if you don't have a head unit that is XM ready is to purchase the controller set up. That way this controller is either on a cord like my old XM system was or it is like a little square box with a little XM screen that you can mount on your dash or where you choose to mount it.

Some new cars have the stock head unit which is capable of XM radio already.

Either way you will need the antenna. The cars coming out with it built in already should have the antenna system set up. You shouldn't have to do anything but call XM and have it activated.

Like myself I had to purchase a little box that is under my seat that controls (brains of the XM) radio and antenna, this box is then plugged into the back of my new pioneer head unit. I use the head unit as a controller...

Make sense??? Or did I confuse you guys more??

If you add an aftermarket head unit that is satellite radio ready, you just add the universal tuner - all hidden behind the dash. Nice, neat and best sound.

Terk (Audiovox) had issues with the XM to JVC "Smart Digital
Aadapter" and are redesigning it now. As soon as it is released, mine goes in.

I thought I heard someplace saying that xm was adding commericals to their popular music channels (xm users verify??)... because frankly the whole point of people paying for radio was for the lack of commercials.

I went sirius and for the must part I like it (had it for almost a yr). But I may just be going back to my ipod, install the fac. ipod control unit and call it a day (with 30gigs I wont repeat music for over 17straight days of playing).

I have not heard any commercials on the music stations. There are commercials on the talk/cable stations since they take network commercial breaks anyway. So I guess they figured putting in some commercials rather than having dead air.

$360 to add XM to the stock radio?!!! Am I missing something?

Mine was $100 less a $30 credit toward my XM subscription. With $290, you could buy a really nice head unit.

I've been listening for about 4 months now and can't ever go back to commercial radio.

I'm not the one selling those. If you look at the purchase history, if the item is still there, you'll see that devenlf bought one, and I wouldn't bother purchasing from myself. Besides, that seller is from TX.

Maybe a bit pricy, but I wanted to add xm without replacing my HU. I kinda like it. That kit includes the xm direct device, which I'm guessing is what you were referring to for the $100 you mentioned? The kit includes something else, too, that hooks right into the factory radio--- I didn't know you can do what this kit does without replacing the factory radio.

If so, I guess I go screwed.

No - you do have to replace the factory radio to install the XM tuner and adapter behind the dash like I did, but with the $260-290 you could get something much better than the factory unit.

Sorry that I assumed you were the seller - you're "one post and run" made me think you were just promoting your auction.

Got that kit installed today. It works great, except for the TEXT part of things. The factory display (I have the large LCD version) displays the channel of the xm radio fine, but I've yet to get it to display the xm radio text (thought my radio has the TEXT button on it, when I press it, it doesn't display anything.. it's blank).

So I guess I'm satisfied, but wish I could get the text to work. The instructions are very vague about getting this setup. I'll post again if I ever get it figured out. If anybody else has installed one of these, let me know your results!

I dont know how I can neatly install a satellite radio on board the car so I got that handheld XM one with the MP3 player I got from walmart...

I dont really like the selections " I stay at the techno channels"...

And still love my MP3 players "Ipod mini,ipod video U2,PSP, ilO, my new samsung yepp4gb,and my pink PSP im waiting for at the mail \/ (I'm addicted to MP3s and free music)..., better than my XM... <cont.
