I didn't see a question
but I mean ... we've been through this before, right? I got no answer for ya PS. I'm not feeling like I'm bouncing around, and I'm still driving stock (mostly). But I would imagine that if you wanted to get a stiffer ride, there are possible mods, add rear bar, change suspensions, maybe lower it. If you just want to complain about the stock ride, then no, I got no answer. You gotta ask a straight question "hey what do I do about this" to get a direct, factual answer. .02 |

Yes, well; it was so long ago! Here it is again:
Does anyone else feel too "high in the saddle" in this car? |

I'm 6'1" and I actually find the driving position fairly comfortable for a small car like this. That being said, the seats are not great, and after 3 or 4 hours of continuous driving, they start to feel uncomfortable. However the actual driving POSITION is totally fine with me.

Yeah, the seats are a bit basic; but most European subcompacts come like that as well so I am used to it. I really am not more comfortable driving our Honda Odyssey for the same amount of time. And as a former VW owner, I do miss the ability to roll down all the windows using the remote. But a note to any Odyssey owners out there, it does the same thing! ![]() However, I got my Yaris sans any power package, so the windows and locks are manual. That's no biggie, as the car is small enough to make it a non-issue, much like my Jeep! Cheers! M2

Actually i like driving on a high position, so i can see what is going on in front of the car i am following..... also safer. I hate driving behind SUVs with blacked out rear windows....

Nice high
If it wasn't as 'high' as it is I would not have bought it. I have a bad back (back surgery 20 years ago) & if the seats are lower to the ground it hurts me every time getting in or out. My Dad's 2006 Bonneville hurt me. This Yaris does not & I appreciate it! This car is comfortable & fun to ride in as well.

oh, OK, lol. Well, i've been horseback riding before, so short answer is no, not really (not anymore at least). :0)
Longer answer, you can change that if you don't like it. As I recall you paid cash for the Yaris so it's yours to do whatever you want with. You could lower the car, change the seats. It's true that for some mods you don't get your money back when you sell the car, but you can always remove the parts, sell them back on the forum, and return the car to stock before selling.

As I recall, someone said you couldn't "lower the car" without doing some kind of damage or compromising performance or something; it even looks kind of like a hippity-hop. Maybe new buyers would notice it more; I'll try asking over there. Thx.

I can't say I've felt the car to be bouncy or riding too high, though I agree that for such a small car it does seem to sit higher than it should. As noted there are a few things you can do to increase the stability or at least feel less hippity-hop. Wider tires, sway bar, lowering springs will all improve the ride on their own, and any combination of the three will just add to the feeling of being planted on the road. Did you buy used or new? |

There's nothing wrong with the Yaris sitting a little high. It doesn't scrape over road obstacles so much. It just looks a little old fashioned. From the rear it reminds me just a little of a '49 Ford. I always wanted one of those.

Plus, the height just may assist a person in the snow.

Yes; it's certainly roomy. My 6'4" friend has enough headroom and I have way too much room (am just 5'0"); it's literally a stretch to reach everything... I guess I just prefer being lower to the ground and feeling like the wheels are actually firmly gripping the earth...

Tomato, I really can't remember what the clutch felt like on my CRX. I had a Chevy Cavalier 5 speed between my '88 CRX and my Yaris. I don't know what got in to me buying a Cavalier, other than my brother works at GM and I got a discount.
Sold my CRX in 1997 to a co-worker's daughter who didn't know how to shift. She had the rust fixed behind the rear wheel-well. I should have just fixed that rust myself and kept the car. The girl eventually sold the CRX to someone else and up until 3 months ago, I still saw it being driven around town. Last edited by DebbyM46227; 07-08-2010 at 11:04 AM. |

You guys should try getting out of a Toyota Corolla 2010 - after getting used to a 2010 Yaris - recently my Yaris A/C failed - so they gave me a 2010 Corolla loaner - man that thing was LOW to me! - I love the height of my Yaris - and I'm 6'2 - 200 + lbs
