Connecting 5-channel amplifier to stock head unit?
This may be a noob question, but I'd like some feedback. Currently, I have 4 165 CA1 SG focal speakers rated to 2-60 RMS. Thus, I have the two following questions:
1. What would be a good option for a 5-channel amplifier? 2. What do I need to connect a amplifier to a stock head unit. Thanks for the feedback. |

A look a Sonicelectronic found this amp
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...te-R600X5.html Not my first choice of brand, but at this price range, there all made in China, so I don't think it really matters. I picked this amp for three reasons, It has all the connectors on one side, it's small, and it has speaker level inputs(that you'll need unless you add a line driver). Good luck.

Look for a good quality LOC or processor to make the low to high signal conversion from the stock deck.

Yeah...most of us won't plunk down the coin for a processor...

My $30 eq made a world of difference. Can just imagine what an audiocontrol can do.
Either one can take one input and turn them into Front, Rear and Sub output. It'll also help with the signal as well.

Some cars do not need a processor. My 3 dr Yaris sounds fantastic with a $100. Pioneer hu, audio control 6XS, a set of Morel 6.5 2 ways, a 10" sub and a couple of Boston amps.
My Land Cruiser was a different story, as the only way I could get a flat sound with a good stage, was with a MiniDSP type processor and an AC real time Spectrum analyzer(as to shoot the car in).

Spend $50 more than the Audio Control and you get this:
http://www.audison.eu/index.php?page=product&id=42 I'll take your setup off that AC and make it truly shine...I speak from experience.

You have no clue who I am or what my systems sound like. I've been doing Hi-End car installs since 1977. Won my fair share of SQ comps.
But thanks for sharing. And FYI, I've done dozens of Audison installs. And not every system needs that sort of HP.Quote:

Damn right! Yeah!
You realize that I wasn't attacking or trolling you, right? Let's see some pics of your setup to illustrate why you've come to the conclusion you have...Sincerely...while you're at it, since we have no idea who you are, why don't you enlighten us? Better come with something heavy, because I'm going to laugh you out of existence if you don't since you're insinuating certain things with your last post. @ s7v7n - I'm actually in agreement with you about the EQ. I'm just more of a fan of having the ability to do whatever you need from the get go. Just a different approach. I look at it like having a V8 race car on a track versus a I4. In this instance, with the AC, you have "old school" proven technology, an investment of $50 more gets you something with more potential that is easier to setup and use across all platforms when you do inevitably move the piece from one car to another. My view is one that having modern tools along with the crossover control for that meager amount of money over the AC's cost is a sure thing.

I agree with both your guys equipment. But. For a first time DIYer if you fry a $30 piece of equipment vs a $150 + piece of equipment it hurts far less.
Plus on the cheaper unit you need a set of inputs vs 6-? Inputs and 8-? Outputs. Babysteps here guys. Babysteps. Lets help teach these guys how to Add before we skip straight to Algebra.

I'm in a similar situation with me other car. I'd love to slam a crap ton of HP into it but I really need to learn how to use it at higher HP level first before I go hog wild.
Relating this to car audio, My first deck was an Alpine 7909, then a 7949, then the 7998. I seem to remember using the Nak CD45z as a fill in deck. I used an AC DQXS lord...what? 10+ years ago? It was too damned clunky and visualizing the total picture was impossible over the entire spectrum. After all that I moved into the P-01 with the Bit One. It was a platform that I could use to see WTH was going on over the entire spectrum of sound at one time. I've always loved the throwback systems ("old school). That's why I picked the DD S2b amps for my sub and midbass and the S4b for my mids and tweeters. Nothing like opening the trunk of a Yaris and seeing a trunk full of heatsink! I still remember the reactions...complete shock and awe. Took the Yaris all the way to IASCA world finals. Had a blast getting there. It'd be fun to build another throwback system or a viable competition bargain brand system. I have the support to do it...especially the second idea. We have a group of old IASCA competitors out here that have the very same idea. Taking it all the way to finals and winning. Been there, I know how it's done. The politics however are completely sand in clam BS.

Music in 3D it's AWESOME, but very hard to accomplish, even just adding a processor it's not going to be a plug and play. D.
