new yaris owner, need suggestions re. noise
Just purchased a 2008 yaris, barebones, 2 dr...after driving a prius for 11yrs. If I want to try to reduce road noise should I start with the hood or trunk and front wheel wells or elsewhere? It would be a diy project, I'm not mechanically inclined, but I do quilt and sew, and some videos I've watched seem to recommend a pieced, layered approach as possibly superior for more inexpensive sound deadening. Would welcome advice re. best products and if I can't do whole car, most effective areas to tackle first. Thanks in advance.

My 2009 has the gearshift cable rattle when put into reverse. Drove me nuts when I got it new but Im too old to fix it and my memory is shot so whenever the car goes to the dealer (waterpump went at 25k miles) I forget to tell them to fix it.
Its five and a half years old now and I don't even notice the noise anymore. Before spending $$$ give it a year and it most likely wont trouble you anymore. Oh BTW Im from Cobleskill and used to go to SPAC all the time!

Tires
If you need tires, look for a quiet tire. That can make a huge difference.
I don't think you can change your Yaris to a Camry. |

Quiet tires are a good recommendation. I added a ton of fat mat to one of mine to try to quiet it down and it helped a bit. After that exercise I realized that the most important areas to sound deaden are the fire wall and front wheel wells. Also, I believe that the air intake for the air conditioning is a major culprit. It is a large plastic duct that acts as a direct noise conduit from under the hood to inside the car. Wrapping that in deadening material (and potentially lining it), might be the best way to quiet down the road noise.

If you really want to make a project of it pm derickveliz2. He had the single most quiet car I have ever experienced.
Here is his build thread.
