overkill?
um well i was in the heat of the moment and i picked up a ppi 3000w amp, 1000w rms, is that too much for the hatchback to take? its going to power up 2 12" mb quart rwe 304 subs, 500w rms 1000w max. please let me know if it better to sell than to keep. wouldnt want to buy a new window set for the rear.

lol I dont think you would bust the windows out, but your definately going to have a crapload of bass....
ive seen a couple videos on here from a member that got banned i think of multiple setups, and if he didnt blow the windows with the amount of bass he was bustin out, I dont think you will....excellent choice on the ppi amp though.......

You can't have too much bass
What do you have for the top end, can it keep up? The problem I see is nobody knows what the alternator can handle...that amp probably draws more amps at full pump than your alternator puts out for the entire car...

I can't pinpoint the source, but the alternator is apparently 80 amp.
It was mentioned on the forums before; whether it is substantiated is another story. Even if you were to calculcate the amperage pull of an audio system, you have to consider that XX amps is only the peak amperage pull while the system is operating at its highest operating level. E.g. Your audio components may be pulling 70 amps after you have factored in the wattage and such, but that number is not the constant amperage pull on the alternator. The constant pull will generally be lower than 70 amps as you won't be operating all components at 100% efficiency. I haven't experienced any problems yet with my setup. I'm running 2 x 10" SW, 2 x 200 Mono, 1 x 840 4ch all without the need for a capacitor. Headlights and instrument lights do not dim during peak hits. It's probably not the most power hungry setup around, but I would say it's a typical setup for a car of this size. Just turn the volume down every now and then :)

Don't have a can of soda in your ride when it hits
I currently have one BTA10200 tube and I am looking to add another...I was a little concerned myself with Alternator or battery issues...but maybe I am just too cautious.

see:
