Passin' The Gas...Station
|
I hauled and delivered Gasoline for almost 10 years. It's all the same. The additive is what makes the difference. Off-Brand stations are buying it from the big-boys. One tank yard....many brands. I worked for Exxon-Mobil and their tank farm hosted many, many off-brand stops. No-lead is no-lead. They don't have 1 tank for each different station. It all comes from the same storage. The difference is the additive that gets injected while the transport trailers are being loaded. The 'puters recognize which brand you are calling for and the additive injection pumps take over.
Yes it is cheaper than Branded, but the big-boys still have their fingers in it. Where I worked out of, we hosted Shell, BP, Sunoco, Texaco if needed, and bunch of off-branded companies. So by boycotting say.....Shell, they may be a host terminal. They just pass that onto your un-branded gas to make up for it. It's all about what goes out the door. Prices change on a day to day basis. usually it was at mid-night. I've sat for hours just waiting for the clock to strike 12 so we could load for a cheaper price. Works the other way too. It the price is going up at mid-night...You scrambled your @ss off to get the as many loads on before 12. When you have 12,500 gallons on the truck....every penny makes a difference. Not to kick anyone in the nuts for trying, but we will never win. For every 1 gallon you save, someone is burning 2.

Thanks for your feedback Meteorite. I pass one of these tank yards every day on my commute to work. I have noticed the many different trucks (Get Go, Speedway, BP, etc) pulling in and out of the tank yard. I often wondered if the gas was all coming from the same single source regardless of whether you're purchasing gas at BP, Shell or Chevron stations. You've helped confirm my skepticism. |
