1. There are a lot more mods now and the site is growing. So we needs to clear the riff-raff. :)

2. IDK.

We're learning that it is better to lock threads early rather then let them get totally out of hand before doing so. Remember one thing... this is a YARIS forum, and if what you're posting about has nothing to do with the car plus its getting people riled up, it'll probably be closed. The goal isn't to flex our cyber-muscles or censor people, just to maintain a positive atmosphere and facilitate good discussion about this car.

Maybe we need a Cyber-Muscle Gym Forum. showoff.gif That way the ones who want to beat each other's intellectual brains out can without gummin' up the thread. I see plenty of space. There are some forums that haven't been touched in quite a long time. The news article space seems to be pretty cob-webbed up.

How about one for those unfortunate incidents that seem to be occuring whether it be the owner's fault or not. Dents, Dings and Dumb Moves.

Change is good, too much make my pants fall down.

As to your first point, I've only found 2 threads locked recently, both of which I urged the moderators to close.

We are fortunate to have such an informative and enjoyable forum for virtually thousands of Yaris/Vitz owners and enthusiasts worldwide.

We don't need drug stories, questions about where to buy drugs, and funny driving under the influence stories on yarisworld.

It takes just a few immature and irresponsible individuals posting inappropriate threads (in off-topic discussions) to destroy yarisworld's fine reputation and shut down the entire forum.

Although one may argue "freedom of speech", responsible persons must distinguish between what is appropriate and what is not on any particular forum. Certainly, there are other forums where individuals can freely express themselves relative to the use of illegal drugs.

We all have a responsibilty to strive to maintain the integrity of yarisworld, and the vast majority of members will do just that.

That sound like a rather radical move at this point.

Don't you think the majority of yarisworld members are responsible enough to raise appropriate discussions in the off-topic section of our forum? There are hundreds of fun and appropriate threads that so many of us have enjoyed joining.

I don't think there's any point in closing down the entire section just because of a few idiots. All we need are pro-active members and moderators to help filter out a few inappropriate threads.

No sense in cutting off an arm simply because of a hangnail!

ok, you asked for it, look I like you personally, what little I know of you from your posts on the site, you are an intelligent individual and I respect that

what is appropriate is where I may disagree with you, basic forum rules are stated and just because someone posts about something you don't condone doesn't merit removal in my opinion

-when I said shut it down I was being sarcastic-

this is a car forum and that is why most of us are but obviously we occasionally "shoot the shit" about other stuff, we are not clones and we are not droids

I think that many threads should remain open while others such as the thread about driving under the influence was rightfully locked

that being said I am not a mod and it isn't up to me what stays and what goes

Hey brickhardmeat,

Occasionally being able to "shoot the shit" on this forum is what makes yarisworld especially appealing and enjoyable to many of us.

I urged the locking of a certain drug post not because it was discussing an activity I necessarily frown upon... hell, I'm one of the original hippies... but because yarisworld is an inapproriate venue for that kind of discussion... particularly when members ask where specific drugs can be purchased. The second post I wished to have locked (funny stories about driving under the influence) was clearly reprehensible and quite simply the ranting of an immature and irresponsible idiot!

I am all for free speech, but with this great freedom we enjoy comes personal responsibilty, self-control, and a little common sense to thoughtfully choose appropriate venues to express our views and opinions. Unfortunately, we find more and more that common sense isn't too damn common, and that self-control and personal responsibility are quickly becoming virtues foreign to this country.

As members of yarisworld, we all share a responsiblity in keeping our forum relatively safe and free from (legal) retribution, and in promoting and maintaining its generally positive character... within reason, of course.

We also each have the right to bring what we believe are inapropriate posts to the attention of our moderators, and then to allow them to do what they believe is in the best interest of the members and the forum.

here is a list of words I find inappropriate in your post

inappropriate-ok, what the fuck is that?
responsibility-be responsible for yourself
safe-ok, safe hmmmmmmmm? I'll have to ponder this one.
legal-government rules cops
positive character-ok, what the fuck is that some kind of religous bullshit?
common sense-ok, what the fuck is that?
self-control-more religous bullshit?

what you are doing is being judgemental, yes you have the right to report the post and the mods have the power to flip the switch, it's their call

don't preach to me

I smell a locked thread.

No, I am not a religious zealot... in fact, quite the contrary. I simply thought we could have an intelligent exchange of ideas, albeit with differences of opinion. But apparently, this has proven to be something more than you can handle with any civility. Pity.

guys, guys, calm down

I personally agree with Kimona, there's off-topic and there's OFF-topic. But yes, there is a pesky thing called freedom of speech (see my sig ), and who are we to prevent anyone from speaking their mind?

What we should consider is maybe adding a sub-forum like a soapbox or completely off-topic cess pit, where guys can debate points of view all you want, without affecting the more serious parts of the forum.

But always remember, the most important thing is to keep this forum into a relaxing and informative place where we can discuss things among friends.

And Brick, common sense is the most important sense you can ever have
