Wow, I did this to an old Austin 1100 decades ago. I weighed each part that I took out, and eventually lightened it by almost 25%. It is amazing what a performance boost that can be!
Out came the seats, the insulation, the rear seats, the inner frames, doorlocks and window winders on the rear doors and trunk (held the doors closed with screws, cut out the inner frames with an air chisel, just went nuts on it. It proved to be a very reliable and quick auto, a great commuter. Biggest surprise to surrounding traffic was attacking 8% grades, accelerating on the way up. Extra noise? As long as the exhaust system is in good shape, noise isn't an issue... |
