You gonna track the car? If not, they are probably not worth it.

I'd get BC inverteds anyway. Many more features and easily rebuildable.

Go with a spring and shock combo like Tein springs and Tokico shocks if you want to go down to about 2". Its half the price of coilovers and should give you the looks and ride you are looking for.

But if you want more performance and adjustability, go with coilovers.

I agree.

You can get springs, struts/shocks, and a rear sway bar (which will really help handling) for about $600. The ride will be very good, and you will get the ride height you are looking for.

Here's a bit from my experience. If you plan to get the Tein basics, they're good for the street, but the spring and dapening rate are too soft for the track. They basically give you a bit of stiffness, but not much more.

If you plan to go Megan or BC (same manufacture), I'd say they are the better choice. Megan being a step up and the BC another notch up.

5 KG springs in front and 6 KG rear are plenty good for the street and the track. They are also adjustable for the stiffness. If you are in a cold and wet area, you will want to maintain your coilovers and brush the grooves to keep them clean.

Otherwise for maintenance issues, just use a set of lowering springs, good shocks and you don't have to worry about drivability issues. Unless you want to slam the car and make it super low...... then you don't need the coilovers.

Well i"m not looking to be stiffer just lower but i'm worried about being lower int he winter... anyone with springs rinning in the winter and daily driving... i just like the smooth ride quality.

if you don't want any stiffness added, don't change your suspension, period. There is always a price you pay with modifications and the quality will depend on the price paid. The suggestions above are great choices, especially the tokiko/tein combo. Tein springs offer the aggressive look and tokiko struts keep you from blowing your factory struts from the reduced ride height.

I'm buying the coilovers for myself for x-mas... now i can't decide between tein basic, cusco compact-s, and megan racing. Any opinions, not looking to be racing the car but want mild performance, 2" drop at least, and a smooth ride?

i have the cuscos and know of one other person on this board with them. i like them alot. ride is smooth. ofcourse if you hit bumps and what not you will feel them more so. but that's a given being dropped 2". i like the fact that not alot of people have them

I got my Tein S.Tech and TRD strut/shocks combo with a Tanabe strut bar for only ~$560. Provides about 2" give or take 0.1" of a drop, and it's a pretty smooth ride (for me at least, family and friends say it's too stiff; I want it stiffer).

I've got the Megan coilovers. The ride is pretty stiff. I would not recommend them if a soft ride is a priority. However, they do handle very well and are priced right.

on bulletproof automotive cusco-s are $1,100 and tein basic are $940 but i've seen the tein for $1,100 too so i'm assuming it's about the same and $100 isn't going to make or brake my decision

Keep in mind the Teins and Cuscos are only height adjustable, not dampening adjustable.

The Teins will be less expensive. I have not heard any problems with them, either.
