I think I got jobbed by the dealer...

So when I bought my 2008 Yaris HB in July, I had the dealership install the keyless entry/alarm. A few weeks went by and my girlfriend accidentally opened the passenger door before I disarmed it, and of course, the alarm went off. I took it into the dealership a couple days later and told them my lock wasn't locking on the passenger side when I armed it. He popped the panel open and told me there wasn't a motor installed. Needless to say, I was quite perplexed. He told me that you usually have to request the second motor to be installed and that it costs around $150. Does this make any sense to anyone else, or did I lose out on my courtesy reach-around? I mean, why get "power" locks when it only locks one friggin door? Would you get power windows that only rolls down the driver side?

that makes no sense. power locks should be for both sides. so your car has been 50% unlocked for a year? what a great feeling huh.

Bad bad zoot.... no wait dealer

Contact the regional office for Toyota if the dealer won't make the situation right. Also check the paperwork and make sure that the fine print doesn't screw you over.
You could also try Consumer Affairs and the BBB

pull the panel off yourself and look and see if there is a motor in there. or go to a car audio shop or different dealer or mechanic and get a 2nd opinion. sounds like there are jerking you around

You obviously had it written down on dealership paperwork when it was ordered and installed.

I would fight the dealership for the repair and extra parts.

It really has nothing to do with Toyota but that really sucks that they would do sloppy work.

I certainly agree that...that is not right. I would confront them about and see if they are willing to make it right. If not...report them and then go to another dealership. I'd say that they should probably be reported nonetheless. Hate to hear stuff like this....let us know how you make out please!

So you have the power package that includes power windows, power locks, etc.?

Does that mean... for 5-Door Yaris LB, you need 4 extra motors for $150 each?
Front Passenger side + 2 rear doors + Hatch door.
That's extra $600...

Wear gloves when handling the brick to avoid finger prints. And wear a black hoodie and cheap Target shoes, so you can ditch them afterwards. Just me thinking on a computer. Never done it before. Honestly...

okay..so a follow up! I went in yesterday to get my 5000 mile service and talked to a sales manager. I told him what went down and the first question he asked me was "Do you have power windows?" i said no, I have manual everything and he said the reason they can't do the keyless entry on the passenger door was because there isn't a motor. I said, "but you did the driver door." He said "well, the power windows for both doors costs an extra $1500 for your package and it's something we can think about." I said "But what I purchased was a keyless entry/alarm for both doors, nobody told me it was only going to open one door. If they had told me that, I wouldn't have purchased it." Then this prick in a tie tells me...and I quote verbatem "It's a small car. You can just reach across and unlock it from the inside." No joke...thats what he said. I was speechless. Then he asked, "well, how much did you pay for it." I said "whatever I paid, I should have paid half price because I only got half of the service I thought I was getting." So...now on to Toyota to see if they can unscrew me...or at least lube it up first.

Update: So I called Toyota services, registered a complaint and he forwarded my complaint to my dealerships customer relations manager. He went down a list of sales managers there and oddly enough, none of them were the gentleman I spoke to yesterday. So now they got salesman posing as managers. And as for MY salesman who I bought the car from...he's the first guy I asked for and he doesn't work there anymore. Funny thing is, the card he gave me when I bought the car, he had to write his name and number down on it because he had just started. But its true, the only car company making money now is Honda...
