Engine Cleaning

I am going to clean the engine off and was curious on the block and on the head there is like some kind of white crap all over it kind of like pitting but its white. Does anyone have any idea what it might be and how to clean it, and the best stuff to use on the head cover.

simple green works great on engines and is biodigradable/non toxic.

My best guess on the white is that it is just something the tires probably spashed up on the block. Do they salt the roads where you live, that's a common cause of white specks under the hood of a Jeep I have. I've cleaned my engine several times already and always use Simple Green. Always try and clean the engine when it's cold or at least not too hot-the shock of cold water on a hot block is not a good combination. I usually put a plastic grocery sack over the alternator-just don't forget to remove it.

If rinsing off any product you apply to the engine make sure its just tap pressure as high pressure wands have a nasty habit of infiltrating electrical connections.Any automotive engine cleaner will work for the metal parts and an Armoral type product will make the plastic and rubber bits look clean.

Honestly, the engine isn't that big, so I use baby wipes. Cheaper than cleaners of the same purpose and the quanity is more. It takes about a good half hour to do the engine. Do it once every two weeks or so and it'll take about 15 minutes

Prob Aluminum oxide. You always take a chance when you wash your engine. I dont show mine - and I don't wash it.

I had the same white stuff from new.. it is like a powder material.. I will try this spring to spray the motor down with SimpleGreen and the wash it off..

p.s... mine is not pitting the aluminum as I can wipe it off with my finger...
