It's a combination of factors.

No, don't ever go a year and a half between oil changes even if you only drive 4K in that period. TIME is almost a bigger factor than miles. This guy drives 5K in like 2 weeks. It actually isn't necessary for him to change oil every two weeks. He could safely go 7-10K between changes as that happens in less than a month. Climate, road conditions, ect. play a role too.

It's very difficult to compute oil life. Most modern cars (above econo class) actually compute oil life based on all of it's conditions and tell you when an oil change is required.

Doesn't the Fit do oil life monitoring? I know my friend's CSX does. I thought it was a nice feature to ensure proper maintenance.
