I just did my calipers last Saturday. I would not go through the trouble of sanding them. You'll just drive yourself nuts for something which is only apparent when seeing them up close. My thinking is that the rough texture also provides added tooth for the paint to adhere to. I've got 6 coats of Dupli-Colour on. Now have to wait and see how durability holds out. Fingers crossed.
