Almost got busted for Aggressive Driving..
It was close, real close.
I was traveling north with a van off of my port side. The little scamp was anxious to get to the front of the line before the two lanes merged to one lane. I'd noticed him pushing around people, such as one child of God who bogarted the left lane and would not budge out of it. Together we passed a sign which read "Aggressive Driving Enforcement". A quarter mile past that point a patrol car was waiting. Once I saw the sign I got really really cagey, refusing to accelerate too far beyond the speed limit but keeping my traveling companion off of my port side. Why? He was being a bit of an ass. I recognized him from other trips. The dude often shows the "Cell Phone swerve". If he wants to chatter on his phone he can do it behind me. So I was getting out ahead of him but not TOO FAR ahead of him. When I saw the Patrol Car I hit the brakes at once, dropping below the speed limit. My traveling companion lurched out in front of me and then hit the brakes, slewing a bit into my lane. He swiftly recovered and slid behind me. I did not see the Patrol Car but as we rounded the bend I saw three other Police cars with rounded up violators. Then I saw the Patrol Car again.... I saw the lights..... and then saw my little buddy getting pulled over. Guess it was his turn today? Spent the next few miles watching out for the "Centipede" trick, where the police will put additional patrols just to catch cocky folk who feel that they got away with something. Made it to work on time, a bit shaken. That was REALLY too close for comfort. Technically I was being aggressive, but in reality I was being assertive and aware, but my traveling companion was just a bit behind the curve... and paid for it. |

Always better to be lucky than good!
I really don't speed much in my Yaris, and normally when I am over the limit it is less than five MPH over. But the other day I was on a deserted parkway doing about 43 in a 30 (the speed limit is way too low, but as one day that area will be filled with housing, they probably just projected it for future traffic). Still, I go over the crest of a hill and sitting in the median was a cop car. I quickly went off the gas but didn't brake as the nosedive would've been an obvious indicator. I probably dropped below 40 MPH but was relieved that he didn't come after me. Needless to say, I kept it to the speed limit from there on out... Cheers! M2 |

We never exceeded 50 miles an hour so it wasn't as risky as past antics.
However those fines would have hurt.... gave me something to think about all day long. Gene |

Rarely do I speed. However a month ago I had to make a 140 mile round trip after work to pick up some beef. I had every intention of going at least 10 mph over all posted speed limits. I got stuck behind an Audi doing 5 mph over in the left lane on a 3 lane highway. When there was an opening to the right and the highway went from 3 to 2 lanes I changed lanes to get by the Audi. When he saw me pull along side and his lane soon ending, he punched the gas so I couldn't pass. Shortly after that there was a motorcycle in my rear view mirror. He went around me and pulled over the Audi.
It was funny on how the dumb SOB who wouldn't obey the slower traffic keep keep right sign got the speeding ticket.

lol.. "aggressive driving enforcement" Were the amish getting too crazy in their horse drawn buggies?? How do you drive aggressively on a two lane road???
In LA, you drive aggressive, or you don't get where you are going. No one is gonna stop and let you in, unless you cut them off. There is no way around aggressive driving once a city hits a certain population. |

When I drive I act like I'm on a bike. I'm always looking around. Good for the neck, good for the eyes and good for the pocketbook. I think that adding ten minutes to my trip would eliminate this non-sense. That and a more structured morning. Make my day at work go better too. It's a no brainer, really.... it'd do my heart good to pass through one of these again and be totally ignored because I was obeying the law. Gene |

Oddly enough if you see an Amish person "in the flesh" they have a presence about them. They rarely smile. They are reserved and stand offish until you're formally introduced to them. Then they're pretty laid back. Their body language is NOT passive. More like old school farmers except they don't have shotguns with rock salt. Some of their women are hauntingly beautiful, no makeup but gorgeous eyes and figures. Hard work, good diet and good living. Good friend of mine visited LA on a business trip. He lives out in the hills and drives to the speed limit all of the time because he hates being bothered by police. He says that they're "bullies with badges" so he works hard to stay on the right side of the law. He landed at LAX and rented a car. He claimed he constantly got flipped off because he refused to drive with the herd and was usually twenty or more miles per hour under the speed limit. He said, "Never been in a place with more people who needed shot than LA". He especially resented the kids who would flip him off because he drove too slow in the far right lane. Gene |
