Just so you know, the tape is to keep the paint color from "peeking through" the gap. I'm not sure if removing it would look so good, but hey, it's your car.
I'd probably just pick enough of a corner with a fingernail then peel very slowly to remove. I wouldn't try any solvents unless I absolutely had to.
