Typical dealer

My 08 has been loosing throttle response on a random daily basis for the last month, short term solution is to turn off the car and turn it back on and problem solved for now, took it to dealer (Spinelli Lachine) yesterday explaining that Check engine light is on and the cars gas pedal frequently becomes unresponsive, codes being shown to me on the Scanguage are P0121 and p2121 i suspect the TPS sensor is faulty and while you are at it give the car an oil change.2 hours later I finally see my car pull up in the pickup area and i ask the mechanic what he did to solve the TPS problem,he looked at me kinda funny and said what throttle problem?i need to replace a part of your wiring harness in the front of the engine and i have to order it from California you might want to tell the service manager about that throttle problem,so i go see the service manager and say your mech said he didnt check the TPS whereupon the guy tells me the problem is in the wiring and when the part comes in i'll call you Ok so i pays the $30 for oil change and drive off only to notice my shift knob is loose and shifting feels kinda spongyWhat the heck are they doing to my car?/

I got a bad feeling about this

I hope your good luck with them continues, and hope that my perceptions of their incompetence is unfounded and the car is fixed once they install this special piece of wiring.

Nowadays, good service is based on luck of the draw. It took Don Valley Toyota 2 new cars and a rental for a week just to get us in an undamaged "new" vehicle. Since moving to the GTA 3 1/2 years ago I've had my vehicles crashed into, windshield scratched, paint damaged, dash board damaged three times, engine air filter compartment left open, interior A pillar ripped off and I'm sure I'm forgetting about something, all while in the "care" of a dealer.

My key to getting good service and to get the absolute minimum amount of work done. So far that's worked.. oil changes only. Even though there TSB's out on my dash rattle I won't let them touch it.

voodoo22: the dash rattle is an easy fit. There wasn't any TSB when i had it done. My dealer (Brossard Toyota) performed the Camry's dash rattle TSB on my yaris. But the rattle was still here.
Finally, i found the problem. It was the cluster hitting on the cluster plastic trim.

anyways.. what do P0121 and p2121 say?

when i first picked up my 2nd MR2, i took it down to the toyota dealer my buddy worked at to get new belts put on becasue at the time i lived in this apartment and i parked on a hill so doing it was out of the question.

so they find the front hood pop (im just watching) and i start to see the hood go up and one of the sales guys run out and yell "its in the back you morons, jesus....."

the sales guys knew more about the car then the tecs did

those tecs just look at the shop manuals to work on the car so im not surprised to see things like this happen. most people know a lot about one type of car and thats about it.

there more interested in getting the car in and out as fast as possible

In all my years I've never taken a vehicle into a stealership for service without finding either they botched the job or a new unrelated problem crops up immediately after pick-up.
I'm a commutor and cannot go without my vehicle.

My normal solution. Self wrench & lube.
My 2008 sedan has rounded 40,000 kilometers and has never been near a dealership since I took delivery. (no warranty issues obviously)

It depends on the garage, and the mechanics working there. I've seen very good mechanics at my dealer. (Brossard Toyota)

jambo: if you don't mind the drive. i HIGHLY recommand seeing Carole at Duval Toyota. Their mechanics are top notch, and know what they are doing.
Duval Toyota is also a sponsor for the Quebec Echo/Yaris forum.

I also recommend my dealer (Brossard Toyota), for having very good experience with them. My advisor, Alain Morissette, have better qualified mechanics than the others over there.

Going to another dealer for a second opinion would seem the prudent thing to do,but i'm unsure of how that works,is the new dealer going to just work on my car for an hour or more with no charge? why wouldnt he just tell me to go to the dealer i bought the car from?.

If it is warranty work. yes, any Toyota deal will do the work out of charge. Otherwise, you are billed the usual charge as you would have at the dealer you bought the car from.

I bought my car at Brossard Toyota... Then I took my car to Duval Toyota for waterpump/alternator getting seized up. It was repaired under warranty. A month later, my front window track were not lined up properly, I took it to Brossard Toyota. Again, warranty work. :)

I made 4 calls to the service dept. at Spinelli today to get some clarification on what they were planning to replace on my car, none of the messages i left to contact me were answered so Made an appointment at Woodland Toyota in Verdun for next week, looking like some one is about to lose a customer.I was thinking that if the car is showing TPS failure codes and the customer is describing TPS failure wouldnt the logical course of action be to replace the TPS module? instead of telling me that half my wiring harness needs to be replaced and it may take two weeks or more to receive what ever parts they are ordering. How many of you guys would be at least getting a second opinion from another dealer?.

most likely, you will be getting charged for to just get a diagnose.

dealer gets paid for warranty work.

Hey jambo101, don't go to woodland terrible service. They didn't even want to sell me a yaris. That had used cars more in my price range, so they said! Never again the worst service ever. Don't tell me what i can buy. As for Spinelli Lachine i got my car there. All depends who you get. It a hit or miss like most dealerships. Service has been good. Did you speak to Pat? He is usually pretty good. Next time see if you can go with your car so see the mechanic work on it. You are paying him, might as well see if he does a good & right job. Sometimes the dealer will call you to see if there service meet your needs, That when you let them know. Did that to bremell & pickering toyota here in toronto. long story. Anyways good luck if anything try duval since they do sponsor the club in quebec so there rep is on the line.

The service guy i got was named Raymond who was an older guy with white hair. I didnt like his attitude as he came across as a smart ass who knew everything and you know nothing. If i go there again i'll try to get Angelo as my service guy.I'll let you know what i think of Woodland. I'm just not prepared to let Spinelli tear my wiring harness apart without a better explanation than they gave.

What i say is you only let them diagnose and not do the work.

But as of right now, I guess you can cancel the work at Spinelli and go anywhere else you like to continue the work.

Looking on a few other sites has brought up a dilemma =6 positive reviews for Spinelli and 3 negative reviews of Woodland.
