Another Nissan Pilot decided that he/she/it wasn't going to let a "subcompact" get ahead of them. They'd been poking along a two lane highway with me behind them and once the lanes went to two either way they refused to let your humble narrator pass them.
The dear lad or lassie actually sped up as I tried to pass them, then crossed into the center of the two lanes, daring me to pass them. The lanes converged to one each and we motored along, he/she/it satisfied that they'd saved the honor of their big fine Nissan SUV. They came up upon another child of God and together they continued happy motoring at a somewhat slower speed. I stuck reasonably close behind them... fortune favors the vigilant. We crested the hill only to discover one of those rarities that you only see once in a blue moon. A PA State Policeman decided that they needed to turn around... so they did... right smack dead in the center of the highway. No lights. No sirens. They just whipped to the left and did their thing. It was a nice three point turn, but it was a three point turn... in the middle of a highway. Traffic was light in both directions but upon seeing this Public Servant do his or her thing both lanes slowed down. Fast. I knew what to do..... The Statie was far enough away that he'd never catch up to me if I passed them. I also knew that he was blocking oncoming traffic. I watched the Nissan and did not see them starting to turn to make a pass. I therefore passed the miserable SOB and the car in front of him. The Statie didn't even deign to notice me, and your's truly continued down the two lane road free of arrogant Nissan SUV SOBs who think that subcompact means lightweight. The moral of the story? Take your opportunities where they appear... Gene |

Sorry that I didn't mention it, but I was in a passing zone. Totally legal.
Now if I'd done something like tossing something at a kid in Philly who smacked my head off a trunk lid, had him follow me out in the country, wacked him in an ambush and then set the car and his remains on fire - that's a good reason to go to jail. Gene |

This story sounds familiar -- you told another version before the YarisWorld Hack, but it was also about getting held up by another intentional slowpoke.

I especially enjoyed the "nowness" of my decision - I had a few seconds to decide to execute the pass before the State Police car was too close for safety. I saw the opening and took it. I think all of us need to be vigilant and calm enough to take our opportunities where and when they appear. Gene |
