LOL @ Mad Dog's post.

In my experience that loud whiny noise is a tranny issue, according my trusted mechanic at the time. Not trying to scare you, but my first car developed that problem but I just ignored it. A couple months later it turned into a louder grinding noise with very poor gas mileage. Lucky for me I sold the car before it could breakdown.

If it's not the tranny then it's def still something within the drivetrain, possibly an issue with a CV axle or boot. I would have it looked at right away before it gets worse

My Yaris does that too. Its not a loud whining sound, but a noticeable whine when accelerating. It seems to go away after driving between two or four miles-- on some occasions more or less. If it’s warm outside the whining sound will go away quicker. When its cold it stays longer. I assume the whine sound when accelerating was because the Yaris was not warmed up?
