I do have the same issue with my 07 Yaris I took for the car to Northridge Toyota ;The third time for the issue describe above on June 5th 2009 They want to charge me because my car is over 52,000, my warranty is up and they told me it would be charge to diagnostic the same issue on the car has been repaired under the warranty twice.I declined, and
I escalated to Toyota Motors They get in the same position as the dealers saying the following : The dealership determined that the failure was not a factory defect rather it is a customer related problem. Mr XX is leaving his car in a unprotected area. The drain hoses for the a/c on his Yaris are being plugged by foriegn debris causing the water to back up in the evaporator and is causing the leak into his vehicle. He was told on both occassions that this is not a warrantable issue outside influences are not covered by Toyota. On his two previous appointments the debris was cleaned out of his vehicle as a Goodwill gesture from Northridge Toyota and the Factory. He has complained to Toyota Motor Sales and Toyota has turned him down for any Warranty assistance. Mr XX Yaris is now out of the Factory Warranty. Knowing that I went to different Dealership : Thanks to service Advisor and his mechanic explained me the issue why it get debris inside the a/c box I understood clearly is a manufacturer issue because if you put anything in your glove compartment when you have the A/C button in circulation mode the A/C Box sucks air inside of the box causing with the time the drain plug be clogged and the fluid will leak inside the passenger side under the carpet. In order the A/C drain plug don't get clogged you can't put anything inside the glove compartment. This is Lemon issue affecting most of the Toyota Yaris Hatchback 07-up If you guys get the same issue as my self hit me up for legal referal against Toyota Motors. Regards Tenaz Pd: I'll keep you update. Last edited by tenaz; 07-07-2009 at 12:10 AM. Reason: correction |

Blocked A/C condenser a real bummer
This has been an issue in my Yaris since the first summer I used the A/C (note: also the first summer I had the car.)
I have found the best tool from under the car is a heave gauge guitar wire. Thanks for the tip on the in-cabin option - I think that will be far easier than having to jack the car up every time I have to do this. My dealer basically said there is no fix for it, and the best thing to do is to continue emptying it. Don't let it go too long, though! I just found out today that I burned out my blower motor, and will now need to replace it. I am competent enough to change a tire, and check oil, etc. I am pretty good at directions. Would this be a repair I might do myself, or would it need a lot of tools I don't have? I just don't have the money to pay to have it done, and no cabin air is a real bummer. |

Water in the passenger side floorboard
So glad to find this forum and more precisely this thread. My wife's 08 Yaris was experiencing much the same thing. I suspected a condensation buildup on the exterior of the A/C duct work, etc as we couldn't locate a specific leak location, but after reading through your posts, I turned my focus on the drain tube.
Oddly when I pulled the grommet end if from the firewall, the whole tube (~6-7 inches) rested neatly in my hand. The tube was not plugged after all, but instead the tube must have slipped off the plastic drain port at the base of the pan. I could find no hose clamp or much in the way to offer resistance to prevent the rubber tube from sliding off should someone stretch out their legs a little "too far" and dislodging it. I checked to make sure everything associated with the drain was clean before reattaching the tube. Now the waiting game . . . Cheers! |

Same issue
Looks like Toyota still hasn't fixed this issue!
![]() I see most posts are for the '07 & '08 models. Mine is the '09 and I began having this issue yesterday. Thank God for this site! I'm going to clean it out either today or tomorrow before it gets any nastier. Only good thing is that I have plastic floor mats down over my regular mats!

Hey Tenaz I Just started to experience this problem with my Yaris and it stinks literally Dude my car smells like mold. I was wondering if anyone on this forum has been able to fix this problem, looks like nobody has so far. Well if any one has, let me know what is it that you did to fix it. Tenaz let me know if you are gonna go ahead and take legal action. If there is anything you need like a letter or pics let me know.

Me too
I am having exactly same problem - this is the 2nd time it happened -
first time we had big rain for days and I started noticing the noise when turning, water in the passenger side, etc .. all the same...(when the AC was on) -- reading info I found about cleaning the A/C draining hose( that should drain to the street under the car) --I did the cleaning and got lot of water out.. --problem stopped for 3 months. More rain and...same thing again..I did the cleaning - got water out - but I noticed that still is leaking when the AC is running - by the way I empty the glove compartment since the first time happend.. I read it in a forum. Just this morning I took it to Toyota (with warranty) and the guy told me they know exactly what is the problem but toyota does not have a recall for this problem. After waiting 1 hr, he came back saying it will take longer than expected, because they need to dry all the carpets, etc .. and they gave me a rental car while they work on mine! Toyota pays for the rental, but no for insurance. I am/was a Toyota buyer !!!! but this is Huge let down - disappointment - they know this a known problem and they should make a recall and fix all Yaris!!! I will appreciate any information on this if there is a ongoing action going on against toyota. THANKS - I will write about my "fix" and will try to get information on what exactly they replaced. |
