We do not give M$ or $ony any money on principle, nor have we for almost a decade.
We have a Wii but have found the lack of adult-level games available for it disappointing. We don't use it much anymore, except when younger children visit or I want a Yoga session with the Wii Fit. We were PC (Linux) gamers for many years but have found that as games create false floors through mandating certain shader levels or other system requirements that it was becoming financially tiresome to keep up, especially since Linux allows our existing hardware to work just fine up until the point of the false limitations being placed. We also got to the point of not wanting to pay monthly fees for games anymore. I was carrying 2 Eve Online accounts when they dropped not only the Linux client but also the "Classic" client, thereby freezing my still-powerful hardware out. My wife still carries one WoW account, but the system requirements for it are so low that she's fairly safe for quite some time to come. I've gotten to a point in my life that I don't game much more anyway. Snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, roller blading, wakeboarding, a large garden, being a Big Brother and a Kiwanian, etc. all keep me quite busy. There's just one "dead zone" for outdoor activity each fall where it's too wet and crappy to bike or hike but there's not yet enough snow to open the ski areas. This is my prime time for gaming, and I may get in another hour or two each week throughout the rest of the year. All of this means that while it's worth keeping a game system around it is simply not worth spending a lot of money on it. This led me to CraigsList where I found a used PS2 with 3 controllers, 2 memory cards, 13 games (of which 8 are top-tier titles) and a component cable for just $150. I picked up 2 more used games at our local GameStop for $6 and $8. Lately we've been rocking Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Final Fantasy XII and We Heart Katamari. ![]() When I get trapped in meetings that I shouldn't be in I like to play Field Runners (a tower defense game) on my iPhone.
