Rental 09 Rav4 mpg

I rented a 09 Rav4 (2WD) to take from San Francisco to LA, brought my ecometer along for some entertainment while driving the long trip. Cruise control on 60mph (the hwy101) gave me ~40mpg, (hwy5) 70mph was ~35mpg. Considering epa estimates are 28hwy, at 48.3avg mpg with various acceleration/deceleration. i was definitely surprised.

Note: *the onboard mpg gauge consistently underestimated both inst. and avg. The ecometer was withint .2-.4mpg.

*We had 700lbs of people and luggage

*The results i got were from level terrain no hill climbs or dfco/nuetrals just cruise control.

Now i am extra looking forward to see what my mpg will be like when i get my first oil change, i havent passed 3k yet.

My used to have a 1998 Rav 4 wheel drive. The gutless wonder. It never got over 28 mpg on the highway.

RAV4 is a good car.

We traded my 2002 Monte Carlo SS (BTW I cried that day) for a 2007 RAV4.. We are still getting about 33 on the highway and 25 in the city. (not bad)

Good family car.
