Armor-All Protectant Wipes
I used some of these yesterday on my dash and it looks like crap! It left streaks all over the place and made the dash look terribly uneven.
What are you guys using to clean your dashes off and help protect it? |

HAHAHA ................. yes i used them too they are shit, i used house hold windex and that product was way better than that armour all crap.
With the interior of my car i just used Pledge Grab It to get the dust off my car and use a microfibre cloth to wipe it down + using spray and wipe multi purpose cleaner. :D Oh yea and i use the Animal/Fluff sticky rollon to get all the loose stuff off my seats Though i rarely wash the exterior of my car. Still waiting to buy Turtle wax ice wax. Heard good things about that product. Though maybe u can use that wax to clean ur glass?

Get a terry cloth or a lint free detailing cloth like a microfibre cloth, soak it in the water, ring out the water until the towel is just damp, and begin wiping. Go over the dash area/other panels again with a second clean cloth, and your dash will be very clean. I am not a fan of shiny look, but this will keep it clean and because it doesn't have that shiny silicone surface, it will attract less dust and will not streak when you clean it again in the future. Invitation is open for someone to suggest a good dash cleaner/protectant, and the explain why it's somewhat necessary to "protect" it.

Allow me. Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Protect.
http://autopia-carcare.com/meg-g-12924.html The archenemy of dashboards is direct sunlight and heat. We've all been in a car where the dash was neglected and began to fissure like a pumpkin pie that had three months to dry out. Its a shame, really. You have to be proactive about that kind of stuff, and especially if you live in a hot, dry climate. (Thats you, San Fernando Valley) You spray some of this stuff on a microfiber cloth, wipe down your dash, give it a minute to set in, and wipe off. It will take hard-to-remove dirt out of all the plastic surfaces in the Yar, and it wipes off to leave you with a dash that isn't shiny or waxy, but has just enough of a protective barrier to ensure that your dash will continue to look brand new for a long time. It also smells killer. I highly recommend this product. You can grab it at any Auto Zone. |

I can't take credit for the TW ice, I actually got it on Chris07LB's recommendation myself. But yes, the stuff is amazing.
I'm telling you, that dash protectant is fantastic. You'll be amazed the first time you use it. |

Most excellent advice. I'll have to go and get all this stuff when I have more cash and do my car right.

hey guys....i found something out accidentally...
i have the armor-all wipes...and i thought they were crap the first time..until one day my sister was actually helping me wipe the dash while i was cleaning other parts of the car... What she did was first wipe down the area with the armor-all wipes..and then use a clean towel and wipe the area again...i found that this leaves the car looking clean and original looking..without the uneven wet slick look...plus it feels normal too..if you just used the wipes and let it dry the surface is kinda sticky...shiny-waxy looking. |

Ding ding ding correct. Though thats extra hard work just to get rid of the streaks. You want a product that wont leave any streaks. I have used that armour all crap too and it left streaks so i had to get my microfibre cloth to get all the streaks out.

Just a damp rag here.
I'll never use any product on a dash again. products like silicone and teflon will damage the finish over time and cause it to blotch or fade. Just use a damp cloth like it says in the owner manual and it will look like new for 20 years.

Agreed. You don't need to "protect" the dash because all windshields block UV rays. It's only the side windows you have to worry about and mine are tinted.

I had quote the above post because I clearly remember Chino commenting about the spray. Saw the spray in stores for quite some time, but never thought of trying it out. Got around to a big cleaning last week and the spray worked wonders for the dash. +10

Even the Meg's stuff has it's shortcomings - go spray your dash, wipe it down, and leave your car in the sun for a few days - you'll see a film of crap on your windshield from evaporated product just like the rest of them. Well, at least you will here with our 38c++ daily temps..
