Info on 2010s?

I had stability control in my scion xb and the only time it ever was activated is when i was trying to get it to.. being that the yaris is such a small car with a short wheelbase i don't anticipate any problems with winter driving this year.

Hi,

I am actually scared to try the VSC to ground. I am reading a lot about toyota VSC and there is a risk of losing the zero calibration if the unit.


If I try the euro pin 30 ground, what does the owners manual state about how and when can this VSC off switch be used ? while stopped ? in motion ? engine off or on ? and does it need to be zeroed after use ?

I don't want to possibly mess up the VSC and have it spin me into a tree if I really
need to use it, and it thinks I am 45 degrees from reality....

I have the VSC docs from techinfo. Here's some of the info on the switch

VSC OFF switch - Pressing this switch turns off traction control and pressing and holding this switch turns off traction and VSC controls.


A30-30 (CSW) - Body ground (VSC OFF switch input)
VSC OFF switch held ON - Below 25 Ω
VSC OFF switch OFF (Not pressed) - 10 kΩ or higher

yeah. I subscribed. did it for my 4runner (back when you could
download the WHOLE TIS in one go with a script...I miss those days)


VSC OFF it is a momentary toggle,
and not prewired unless you have a switch.

TRAC OFF MODE

press the vsc off switch briefly
the trac off indicator will come on
system is in trac off and vsc ON mode
push the switch again to turn system back on

VSC OFF Mode
stop the vehicle completely and press the VSC OFF switch for more than 3 seconds

the slip and VSC OFF indicators will come on
The system is in TRAC OFF and VSC OFF mode

------------
automatic reactivation of TRAC and VSC
turn engine off

automatic TRAC on...if vehicle speed increases

automatic TRAC and VSC activation
they will not reactivate when speed increases

EPS operation
when operating the steering wheel a motor sound may be heard



OK I am not scared to wire this thing up anymore now that I know what to expect as a driver,
and all I want was the TRAC OFF anyway....so it looks like....i will test this next week (no time to mess
around this week, I spent enough time already with CC and MPG calculations...only got the Yaris Monday noon....)

Carp !

The combination meter does not have the VSC off and TRAC off led's in vehicles
without the VSC off switch. So I can wire the -VSC off- all day, but I will have
no indication it is actually off, or the status of it, unless I hog my own LEDS
into the Combo meter....

dang this project is on hold for a while. I don't want to go in there just yet.

And, the indicators are driven by the combo meter receiving CAN bus messages about VSC and TRAC being off, so that makes it almost impossible to add the LEDs.

yup. I will need to go deep ($$$) if I really want VSC/TRAC OFF.

I will just find out how it goes in snow, and if I get stuck. I just won't
clown around.

the 4runner is for that anyway....

Just a note as a former stability control engineer - vehicles with short wheelbases are more unstable in yaw. It doesn't take much lateral movement to cause a high body slip angle, and anything over about 15 degrees is difficult for anyone but those with lots of experience to recover from. Just my 2c...

I'm so glad I got a Yaris before all the electronic nannying. But no drl's for 2010? Lucky, oh so lucky.

Agreed.
Heck, I don't even have ABS! I do have the DRLs, but so far no bulb has blown out in 1.5yrs of driving with forced on headlights...

The lack of DRL is so nice, but even better is the fact that they haven't yet made the stupid automatic lights. I'm not sure if anything on a car annoys me more...

As for the electronic nannying, I wish you could turn it off (without pulling the fuse!), but it sure is nice to have in an emergency.

Those DRL's on my 09 have gotten me into trouble. They come on when I put the car in gear, but the biggest problem is that they also turn the backlight on for the gauge cluster. Makes me think I already have my lights on. And even though this car has the indicator light to tell you if your actual headlights are on or not, I'm not used to seeing it since it's never been on any prior car I've either owned or driven. So when my guage cluster is illuminated, I think my headlights are on (since that's the only time it ever used to be with all prior cars). Not good at 5:30am, in the dark, and driving on the highways, with lots of traffic........

I do that as well. I created a DIY a while back for headlights off with the key (which I find mighty handy on rainy and foggy days, where it's easy to forget that you turned them on). I keep meaning to do one for having the tails come on with DRL, so if you forget to turn the headlights on at dusk, at least the tails are on as well.

I don't have ABS either, thankfully. The bulbs won't blow, but drl's just are horrid.

I disagree. The last thing you want in an emergency is for the car to do something you aren't expecting. The best thing you can have in an emergency is lots of experience driving your own vehicle. It is good to be able to play and exceed the limits in controlled conditions, so that when something does happen, you are ready. Also just driving defensively is better than having any electronic weight adding nanny's.

Ouch. It would be so nice to have an way to turn them off. Thankfully nothing bad has happened to you yet.

the electric nannying will save a 'non-drivers' butt. those are the majority of drivers

but those who -drive-, and have had a lot of experience driving and getting things
out of whack in the high school parking lot at night, it may be a problem

I like VSC because I have had my little LeCar R5 Turbo get out of sorts once or twice and I was fishtailing everywhere at 70 mph and came within a hair of flipping it. Sore arms amd ribs later (from my very rapid counter-steering) saved me, but only just. if the Yaris gets out of whack, I will attempt the same, but VSC should make it easier.

the TRAC is something I do not want, it has already left me stuck once...on a steep
dirt driveway where I needed some spin to get up. trac keep bogging me down.

anyhow....cannot disable it. I guess I just have to deal. no worries i like the little Yaris, it is like taking a break from driving the 4runner every day. I can whip the Yaris around a but and there is no danger of tipping over like the 4runner might.

Exactly! Even as an experienced driver though, it's nice because I can't guarantee that I'm "on" every second that I'm driving. I do my best, but sometimes that one second reaction is the difference between making it home safely and not.

On a related note, a car behind me on the highway entrance ramp this morning spun out (did a 180) when she overreacted to a driver who wouldn't let them onto the highway. Luckily she didn't hit anything and was just shaken up. Oh, and it was mostly dry with some wet patches from yesterday's rain. Most likely if she had ABS she would have been fine...
