Well this is what was done.. which I assume was standred but according to what you posted for $30 they change the filter and oil. Do they rotate the tires? I was charged $26 more for that.

Honestly man, learn to change your own oil. The Yaris is VERY easy to work on.
Would love to but unsure on how. How would I rotate the tires? As well as clean up properly?

I will talk to this new dealer tomorrow in hopes that they could explain this high bill. I wish I had more of a straight answer on here but either way thanks for the advice. Not a good deal seems to be the right answer but I am probably just wanting to believe that... so very tired of car dealers/auto shops etc always feel like they will charge whatever they want.

You didn't get screwed. You signed the repair order before your car was worked on didn't you? They quoted you a price didn't they?

Your price seems right for a dealership oil change.

$10 for the oil filter
$10/qt for synthetic oil x 4 = $40

At my shop, techs get about .3 of an hour for an oil change. They get an extra .1 if they have to pour the oil in from bottles instead of the overhead oil. Labor at my shop is $118 an hour.

There is quite a bit of markup in synthetic oil. I think we pay about $4 a quart for Mobil 1, but charge $9 a quart.

Thankfully, there are many people like you who come and get their oil changed at the dealership or I wouldn't have a job. I can't afford the $80 oil changes, but do it at home. $3 for a Toyota filter and $22 for a jug of Mobil 1 and 30 minutes is all I need.

If you don't want to DIY, then just bend over and enjoy.

Rotating tires adds another 20 minutes or so to the job. All you need is a good jack to lift up one side of the car (they run around $50-100), and the tools already sitting in your tire kick in your trunk.

I would see if any Yarisworld members near you are willing to drop by your place and show you the ropes. It's very simple, and actually pretty fun! If you lived closer I would be happy to come by and help :(

Also, everyone saying you must have your car serviced by the dealer to maintain a warranty is flat out WRONG. Not only is it wrong, it's illegal. If a warranty issue comes up, the dealer only needs to see proof that SOMEONE did the oil change/service. If you do your own service, keep a log book. It's easy and will cover you in the event you have to use the warranty.

that sounds about right for synthetic from the dealer. i hope they rotated your tires too. looks like you paid for labor at a half-hour which with oil change and rotation, up and down on the lift it would be close to 25 minutes

yeah you did get ripped off

yeah i really believe that got ripped off
very badly and as far as them putting
synthetic oil, its kinda of rare for them to
put it on unless you ask for it. I actually
spoke to one of the technicians and
he told me that once you have started
with synthetic you shouldn't go back to
regular and vice versa. He also said that
Toyota made their cars to work with the
regular oil and that is the default oil that
they use when people bring in their
Toyotas for an oil change.

Even though your car is new, just stick
to regular oil. Toyota makes them so
that they work with the regular oil, plus
synthetic will cost more. That really
sucks that it really happened. Try to
learn and do it yourself, look on video
sites such as youtube or have a friend
teach you and you can start saving a
lot of money and putting the rest of your
money on something that is really worth
paying for.
