New "bulgey" lug nuts from Jegs arrived today (thanks to CTScott for the tip). They've been installed and torqued to spec. The Gorilla's weren't going to fall off and there were no issues over the last several hundred miles, but I do feel better with these installed. A note to any others thinking of using these or similar wheels:
Unlike the Gorilla's, these lug nuts are 3/4" (19mm) hex - smaller than the stock Yaris lug nuts and therefore will not fit the factory lug wrench. I took an old lug nut from my original steelies and welded it to a sacrificial socket and tossed it in with my goody bag in the spare tire well. I think a reminder is in order here - when changing to non-stock wheels always keep a set for your spare. Pat |
