Rattles

Has anyone noticed any rattles? I have my 2 door hatch for 3,500 miles and I seem to be noticing some rattles from the passenger side dash & from the hatch on the same side.

Search "rattle". Forum is full of threads on various rattles, squeaks, creaks and what not.

This car is assembled with a lot of hard plastic bits joined together. You'll notice a lot more of them as the weather gets colder, and the car gets older.

rattles are a pain to deal with...sometimes hard to actually locate. A few ways to deal with them.
1) add weight to the parts making noise so it takes more energy for them to vibrate (and hit each other)
2) secure them together (if you can glue pieces down in place, they cant rattle)

I have noticed that rattles get worse the higher your tire pressure is. I used to run 32psi, but now I run 42psi, and have ran as high as 48psi. When I was at 48 the rattles were significantly louder than at 40-42. I don't remember noticing much of a difference between 40 & 32 however.

The rattles are deceptive... I constantly get tricked by there locations. The trickiest one is in the slot next to the heater controls. It also eats coins>.<

rattles in the dash seem to be part of this cars nature. I have a jeep with over 200k and it's had less rattles pop up in its dash than this car. I'm always grabbing at the pod and pulling at the trim to get it to stop buzzing as I go through the gears every cold morning. In the summer I get a rattle in the hatch area-could be the cover, but still not sure-it's gone in the winter. I've had some good results using foam rubber like you find at hardware stores once I trace the rattle down. Short answer to your question-Yes. It's the nature of hard plastic dash boards. Honda Fit owners have the same trouble and the Mini Coopers have a whole orchestra rattles.
