Automotive culture is big here just like cali. Stay away from Tacoma, Lakewood, Federal Way, White Center, Kent, Lynnwood. Places that you should consider living are, Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, Issaquah, Maple valley, Renton(Is ok).
Plenty snow in the mountains for you too!

spokane is a wasteland though.. second largest city in WA, and downtown is like 4 square blocks lol.

There's a big difference between the NW and So Cal...
...it's called seasons. ...and clean air. I'm in a place that reminds me of So Cal right now. I can't wait to get back to the cool, rainy, fresh NorthWest.

I wouldn't mind living in a place that didn't have seasons... thats fine with me... But I do miss spokane... I've only live a few places, Spokane (and within 30mins drive of spokane), Osaka, Japan, and now Eugene, Oregon.... Eugene is by far the worst of all.
don't see the sun for weeks at a time during the winter, the drivers don't know what turn signals are... and worst of all the politics. The problem has nothing to do with them being liberal... fuck... i'm pretty darn liberal... the problem is that they are fanatical zealots of nonsense bullshit. I swear the majority of the town are stoners who cry foul anytime anybody makes a decision. I can't wait to get back to spokane, great outdoor activities... a dozen places to rock climb outdoors within a 90 minute drive, plenty of ski resorts, places to bike (both bike path and mtn biking). To me spokane really only has two big drawbacks... 1) Downtown doesn't look that great.... 2) weak public transportation system (course all the west coast has this problem). The outdoor activities in Eugene are lame... yes, there is access to just about everything you could imagine (same with spokane).... but everything is at a novice or beginner level. The rock climbing for example absolutely sucks unless you drive 2.5hrs to smith rocks.... which is some of the best sport climbing in the country... but really... 2.5hrs, I miss the 30min commutes spokane had. Rock climbing used to be my life, that and basketball... I now have given up climbing until I move, and only get to play ball on average once every week, and usually don't enjoy the competition very much. Spokane isn't the only place where there is meth. |

I've only been to Eugene once (visited a couple of breweries on my birthday), and have never been to Spokane, other than driving through. Maybe we'll plan a day trip to Spokane.

Doing no more than 7mph over speed limit, it will take you approx 5.5-6hrs to go from Portland to Spokane. 12hrs is a lot of driving for one day. It's a boring drive too. I'm making the trek from Eugene to Spokane presidents weekend... I don't look forward to it (8hr drive)... but I will be on I-5 by 1:30 which will be nice, get me into Portland around 3:30, traffic on I-5 south of Portland, and on 205 shouldn't be too bad at 3:30. I hate when I get stuck in that 4-6pm jam on fridays. Really slows down my commute. |

I've done the drive about 3-4 times on the way back to Wisconsin; it is a boring drive!
