15" to 14" rims
I have a set of 14" rims from my last Echo with nearly new all seasons mounted, come spring i'm thinking of installing the 14's instead of the usual summer 15's,i cant think of any potential problems doing this other than some minor mileage and speed reading discrepencies from the instruments..Am i missing anything?
Its an 08 Yaris sedan.. Thanks |

If the brake calipers fit, you should be clear to go.

i run 14's in the winter...only difference is the rolling diameter might be smaller than your oem 15" tires....nothing you really need to worry about

I, too, ran 14s for the snow.

14s should fit fine.

I run 14's. If they fit the echo they should fit the Yaris. Mine are 14x5.5 +35, and they fit fine.

Of course they should fit fine. 14's are standard equipment on many Yaris models.

not all 14's fit though. miata daisies don't fit because of the offset of the wheel....i think older toyota 14's won't work either because the offset is too high (>45)

I had 15" inch alloy mag rims on my Yaris, I purchased a set of 14" stock steelies from a member on here who had them on his 09 Yaris. I've since put them on my car. I've found that by going from 15" to 14" has caused by speedo to be incorrect. My speedo says i'm going faster than what I really am.
e.g. To go 100km/h i need to travel at 108km/h on the dash speedo To go 90km/h i need to travel at 99km/h on the dash speedo To go 80km/h I need to travel at 88km/h on the dash speedo So you won't get into trouble for speeding if you follow the dash, but you will wonder why the whole world is passing you. Of course the other bummer is if the car thinks it's going faster than it actually is it is also putting more km on my dash display than necessary and also means I have to service sooner to keep my warranty.

i did bother, but if you knew to size your 14" tires to match your 185-60-15 tire size, you wouldnt be 3.5% off in YOUR oem rotating diameter running 175-65-14's. its simple math to figure out they arent the same diameter. since 185-60-14 =~ 175-65-14, you're actually 1/2" LESS rubber on your sidewall, and thus 1" shorter overall.
its a post i've made before since my car came with 14's and i mentioned that the speedo seems off according to gps (again confirmed this weekend going up north) i think all yaris speedo's are set to 185-60-15 sizing, not 175-65-14.

I run 14" Echo steelies with 175/65/14 snows (the stock Echo size) on my '08 sedan.
No clearance issues. They look puny but fit perfectly. When doing 100 kph on the GPS my speedo reads 102 kph. So, 2% over. Benefits compared to my 15" factory alloys are slightly increased acceleration but most noticable is an incredible braking improvement. It nearly puts me through the windshield the first stop after installing the winter boots each fall. Of course this could be partly due to the almost non-existant dry traction of the OEM Goodyear LS three-seasons but more than likely due to the fact that the 14" steelie/snow tire combo is noticably lighter than the OEM 15" alloy set-up.

Well I have 185/60R15 on my 07 Yaris Sedan and 175/65R14 on my 02 Corolla. Both are stock sizes for both cars respectively and both show about 3 kms MORE than the speed shown by the GPS. Yes, GPS takes a while to calculate the speed but I compared at steady speed without any speed changes 5 minutes before and after the reading.
I noticed same offset when compared with multiple curb side speed detectors on the highways. Now which instrument is more accurate GPS or speedometer ? Last edited by B789; 02-25-2010 at 09:58 PM. |
