I'd say go for it.

When you have more HP to work with, it's easy to tell the difference between heavy and light weight wheels.

When I had my seats and added my subs in the car, the car got a little slower. Then I threw in huge heavy wheels and didn't notice it get any slower.

When I took out the seats + subs I felt it get significantly faster.

When I swapped out the heavy wheels with the seats + subs still out for light weight wheels I felt it get even faster.

Think of it in terms of a person's weight:
It's hard to tell if someone's 300 or 400 pounds. Once you're past a certain point it's all just weight...
However It's easy to tell if someone's 100 or 150 pounds.
