Anyone get abnormal problems?

I was driving today and everything was fine on the freeway. I proceeded to exit and when I got off and came to the stoplight to wait. The car was idling fine but then I noticed the check engine light was on (wasn't sure how long it was on for but couldn't have been for more than a minute or so). When the light turned green and I went to take off, there was no response at all from the gas pedal. Pushed it and held it down even, yet no response at all or movement. Tried switching the gears and everything was shifting in the trans, but still no response from the throttle. So I ended up turning the vehicle off then restarted it, finally it took off when I pushed the gas. Idle was a little rough from there.

I went to the garage when I got home and pulled out the MAF sensor, which is the only thing I did today to the car and double checked it. Gave it a nice MAF sensor cleaning earlier today with some MAF sensor spray. Everything was dry and fine looking with it, so I just made sure it was tightened down a bit and also disconnected the battery to let the car reset itself. Once I got it back all connected, I let it idle for 10 mins or so to relearn itself, then once I made the near hour drive back home from where I was, no check engine light and everything seems like it's ok....very strange Yaris behavior in my opinion.

Anyone have a similar incident or wierd behavior out of their Yaris?

I sure miss when all this electronic sensor, etc BS wasn't in vehicles and it was strictly nearly all mechanical.

Maybe your engine stalled, but you thought it was no throttle response. Restarting a flooded engine would run rough.

The engine was definitely still running. It was just staying at idle with absolutely no throttle response.

Maybe it has something to do with the Lexus GX460 recall.

Hello, I have not had that happen, but here is my issue with my Yaris.....
When I start it up, it WILL not shift out of second gear until the engine temp light goes off. Once the engine is warm, it will run though the gears with no issue. But, it has to warm up totally before it will shift out of second. Plus, if I am going down hill and tap my brake, it will shift down into second and say there. Which would be great if this was a Prius, but its not. Is this normal? I have a 2007 auto three door with about 41k on it.

Yes. It is not up shifting to fourth until the engine warms. On the down hill, it will down shift to third when you tap the brakes.

get the obd code and find out what the issue is

resetting the ecu will only temporarily mask the real problem

Drove it all day today, about 70 miles or so with soft driving and pedal to the medal driving...didn't come back. Not sure but I'm not complaining.

when you eventually (at random) drive all the diagnostic patterns the code will
flip again, unless it truly was a one-off anomaly

driving the patterns can take 2 or 3 tanks

I think that's a redundant question.... A problem on the yaris.... I mean a REAL problem, like electrical or mechanical.... well, it is abnormal.

should go to 3rd gear long before the BLUE LIGHT goes out indicating operating temperature and then to overdrive . Seems like it takes a few more seconds to get the overdrive after the BLUE LIGHT disappears . Our '08 automatic sedan remains in second gear for first few moments of cold starts . Removed both battery cables ( negative 1st ) earlier and left off for 2 and 1/2 hours before starting the car for 1st time of the day . Then immediately took it for a drive at different speeds . May have shifted up to 3rd from 2nd a little sooner with BLUE LIGHT on since the disconnection of the battery .

Do you mean that you were messing with the MAF before the issue...or messing with the MAF because of the issue?

Took the MAF out to clean it because I was installing a new airbox top due to the MAF sensor screw holes being stripped out on the old top. If it had to be taken out anyways, might as well clean it while it was out with some MAF sensor cleaner.

Drove another hundred miles on it between yesterday and a bit this morning, so far so good.
