I'm in spot #1 for the under brace R&D. Looks like if the part works out and fits, they leave it on for free.

I've had parts R&D'd on my bike in the past and never was charged for them (probably a way of thanking a person for the inconvenience). I would have been shocked if they tried to get someone to pay for any kind of R&D work.
