Bike rack as a cosmetic mod?

So ive seen many cars around the city with top mount bike racks and it seems more like a cosmetic mod than something of utility. It sounds foolish of me to stereotype biker riders but these kids look like the last thing they do is wanna ride a bike. is this true?

I have a friend at work who keeps his bike rack on year around. He might use the rack twice a year.

Having a bike rack makes people think you are a bike rider, in shape, care about the environment, and all that. It's just like my TRD badge on my grille. If I ain't got TRD stuff, don't have the badge on. Same with the bike. When a fat-ass like me gets out of the Yari, they KNOW I don't ride bikes! LOL!

Besides, who the hell are we trying to impress anyway?

^why is it 'retarded' to carry bikes/surfboards on a yaris? can't be any worse than trying to increase the horsepower of an econobox. no offense, i own two yaris' and one has a rack on the top(which we do use to haul bikes to the local park) and the other i have spent money lowering/making louder/etc. so i'm just saying 'it's your money - spend it on whatever you want'.

Just cause you have extra money doesnt make it less retarded btw I have two cars and neither has a bike rack.

I wouldnt be caught dead with a bike rack on my fastback. And a yaris with bikes on it ? Maybe a surfboard can slide but bikes lol.

Sometimes it is difficult for me to grasp what goes on in other's heads. Why on Earth would you not put a bicycle rack on a Yaris if you have regular use for one?
