That said i love the lights, but if you want my opinion, they came up with a new led strip made with 5050 smd leds, they are arranged in groups of 3 with the minimum being 15 leds total i think it would look even nicer. As for a sourround , unless its 100% water and moisture tight you will end up burning the leds out, because moisture tends to stay inside and will eventually get into the strip, trust me i tried. Best way is to get strips that are made by flowing the rubber silicone over the circuit
