It pays to research the price of anything. Buying on impulse can cost you money. I had a 2002 Dodge diesel that I traded for an 04 Dodge. The 02 had a kill switch and I left a note for the new owner to call me for location. He asked how much I got for trade in for the truck. Wasn't sure because we only discussed the trade difference. However I told him how much I paid for the 2002 as a loss leader. You could almost hear his jaw drop on the the phone. He probably paid more for the used than I paid for the new.

It's just an asking price. They want to get as much as possible from your wallet.
A Pawn Shop is not like a regular retail store. Give them a low number and haggle from
there. It's a LOT like buying a car...

I had a similar experience about 10 years ago. I had my eye on a cordless power driver and found one at a home improvement store for $200 that came with a two year warranty, which would become a 3 year warranty via my credit card issuer. Later that day I visited a pawn shop and saw the exact same item, used and without a warranty, for $235 (my credit card issuer would have only covered it for 90 days). Go figure.
