With new cars like the Fiesta, Focus, Elantra, and Accent just to name a few with newer direct injection technology and better interiors, The Yaris and Corrolla have some serious competition.
Personnally I prefer a proven reliable Made in Japan 1NZ-FE, 1.5 litre engine with an also proven reliable 4-speed auto transmission. But the general public may think differently than me.

I don't think any of those cars have direct injection. I know for fact the elantra doesn't. the yaris could also use better gas mileage like the fiesta and elantra, and the soon to come.

I have seen more Yaris on the roads in my neck of the woods
and more used trucks and suv's in the dealer parking lots just
in the last few months , If I was car shopping today I would be
seriously be looking at Fiesta.

Will probably see an increase of sales for the Yaris as gasoline prices continue to go up. I don't expect the Yaris to fly off dealership lots in sales, since there is a lot more choices in inexpensive sub-compacts cars now versus what was available a couple of years ago. If gasoline prices were to jump to $5-6 or more a gallon overnight you might see mad rush for cars like the Yaris and other inexpensive FE sub-compacts.
