One less terrorist in the world, I wish death on no man, but he had it coming, I lost a few member from my family in the 911 attach (Twin Towers) and in Irak, like the old sayin goes “What comes around goes around“ thank God after ten years they finally got him.

Not many Americans agree with the increased security measures. To quote Benjamin Franklin - "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Putting aside the ethic and moral aspects of what happened, I wonder if any of you people over in the US actually feel safer now. Since terrorist no 1 is dead and it's celebrated widely, do you really feel a lot safer when you go, say, travelling abroad?
I've never felt safer in my life, at home or abroad, because I stay alert and pay attention to what's going on around me. Don't be fooled by the political fear mongering being used to pass an agenda, it in no way reflects the sentiment of the average American.

The real question is how the terrorists feel, knowing that we're willing to lay waste to their entire civilization for a single act of transgression. Knowing we will demolish country after country just to settle the score. Hate our foreign policy? Hate it bad enough to invite it into your homeland and have it water board your entire family because you did something stupid? Of course, they'll have to survive the predator drones first....

Im hearing the knowledge about the courier that was tracked to Bin Laden was obtained by waterboarding the prisoneers at Guantonamo.

Truth? Or myth?

Let me be the first on this forum to call shenanigans!!

This entire news production resembles an act straight out of "Wag the Dog":

Dustin Hoffman (brainstorming, talking aloud): Why can't the US gov't produce the body of Bin Laden? Dammit think!

RObert DeNiro: The body has been lost at sea.

Hoffman: What?

Deniro: There's no body because it's been lost at sea.

Hoffman: You expect the public to believe that US Special Ops LOST the body of Osama bin Laden, World's Most Wanted Man ten years running? Get out of town! They won't bite!

DeNiro: Oh They'll bite. If we tell them it was done on purpose- In strict accordance with muslim burial tradition- oh they'll bite. THey'll bite alright.

Hoffman (smacks his forehead): Of Course! Muslim burial tradition! So as to extend an olive branch to the radical muslim world! THat's brilliant! But Is there really such a tradtion?

DeNiro (shrugs): We'll find something close enough.

Just to humor your example for a moment, because I can't say I completely disagree, what would really be the harm of lying to the public in this case? It's one thing to lie so that they can screw us all over but quite another thing to say you killed the person we all wanted dead.

*shrugs* Seems to me, if they are lying, in this case I don't really see the harm. People get closure. Obama gets a boost for his campaign. The Republicans get to run on how they started this war on terror that ultimately lead to Osama's demise... everybody wins.

Well thank you for humoring me.

No harm done of course, lying to the public. (0.0% sarcasm intended)
That's just Realpolitik as it should be and nuts to anyone who is juvenile enough to pout about it.

But it's more interesting to speculate on the intentions of the-powers-that-be; ie. Does the declaration of Bin Laden's death= their intent to finally draw a close to The War On Terror? Or is this meant to goad the Jihadists into perpetrating another 9/11, giving the US justification to wage an all-out war in the Mid-East?

Only time will tell of course.

I guess I find it irritating/ insulting/ darkly funny that the US gov't can so casually issue propoganda that plainly stinks to high heaven, with no fear of losing any kind of legitimacy.
THe rest of the world must think we're sheep feeding voraciously on our own tripe.

He was the world's number 1 terrorist and caused the death of thousands of Americans, so, what is is America supposed to do? Say that's OK, "I don't worry about him" like Bush did?
He was a criminal and criminals must be brought to justice. There is no statute of limitations on murder!

It has little to do with feeling safer. It's just one more low life no longer on the planet.

When it comes to the hitlers and the binnladens of the world I find it VERY difficult not to be happy they are gone and HOPE they are rotting in hell.

I also find it really hard to swallow that as an American, I am part of the murder of a man. Yes a really really bad man who had a hand in the murder of literally thousands of innocent people, but a man none-the-less that too has been murdered by us. Justify it all you want, we're saving future lives, he needs to atone for his sins, we crippled their organization (which we didn't), etc. Why not tranq the dude and pump him for info? Why we kept the body is beyond me as well. If we were just going to toss it into the ocean, why not give his body back to his family so that they may do the proper customs? I mean, aren't we trying to prove that we are better than him and his murderous "evil" ways?

Anyway, I hate to say it, but I'm glad he is gone, but I'm a little ashamed to say it, and struggling to forgive. heh
This I can respect. I've been arguing with what I call "radical Christians" about this, I feel like I'm talking to a wall, at least you show some tolerance and understanding for other cultures and religions.

Pakistan is going to have fun dealing with their shit country without our funding and troops, at least I hope that we would pull out after this discovery. The lack of obvious effort they put in, in finding him is a slap in our faces.

Amen!

Here at Penn State University kids rioted all night when the news came out. It was a big party. See what 10 years of indoctrination can do to you! The kids where in elementary school when his name was brought up for being the mastermind. They have no understanding of geo-economics and the politics. I'm appalled and ashamed with how people act... even adults friends of mine.

The credit should also go to Jessica Dovey as the 1st sentence was hers.

Thanks! I found out about that yesterday lunchtime, but no-one had figured out who wrote the first sentence yet.
Either way, it fit my mood perfectly, regardless of first use.

No need for rock-crawling-under ( understood). It was just a matter of giving Ms. Dovey credit. The sentences flowed together nicely and it's something that MLK would have said.

I like that the quote about knowledge is author UNKNOWN.

Yeah even if you take out her line it still has the same sentiment really. No worries.

To add to this though I have to say there are some instances where retribution is just the nature of things. I'd love to believe that the world would be a better place if we all just lived by the idea to forgive and forget but it's just not true. Surely no one can expect us to just let Osama off completely after his involvement in mass killings.

One of my favorite quotes is by Nietzsche and is as follows “Distrust all in whom the impulse to punish is powerful.” Which I agree with and try to live by. But I think this is just one of those cases where an infatuation with punishment can be excused.
