Also, most small car nameplates have traditionally been offered in sedan and hatch versions in America. I can't recall a company that has used two nameplates for a related sedan and hatch, although I'm sure there's an example somewhere in history.

Yes, but the Vitz and Belta are not different "versions" of the same car; in fact, the two cars are barely related.
