difficulty finding a yaris

i live in the san francisco bay area and want to buy a new yaris as the going rate for used w miles v. new just doesnt make sense on the market right now.

i went to one of the big local toyota dealerships and was shocked that amongst the rows and rows of the various toyota models they had available, there were only TWO yaris' on the WHOLE LOT. FURTHERMORE, every dealer i spoke to practically walked away when i told them i want a yaris.

are these cars so popular that they're running out? (they're VERY common on the road here) and is the markup so low that the salesmen arent interested in pushing them? i got the impression that there's this mad drive for fuel efficient vehicles now and they're having trouble selling the rest of the stock.

i've checked many local dealerships withing a 50 mile radius and same story: 1, maybe 2 yaris' in stock

what gives?!

With the way gas prices are it doesnt suprise me that there are not many on the lots. Not sure why the salesmen doesnt want to make a sale though. :-\

production was stopped

The factory which makes the Yaris was shut down due to the earthquake. I don't know when or if it started up again. So that would have cut off the supply for some time.

Toyota has done a poor job with the supply of the Yaris, even before the earthquake. The dealers will try to sell the more expensive models and not push the Yaris. Advertising is virtually non-existent. The result shows up in the poor sales numbers.

I just purchased a new 2010 in April 2011 with a $750.00 rebate which I was not aware of
I got lucky, now if you want a new one its very hard since I think all of the Yaris's are made in Japan, and since the EARTH QUAKE now dealers aren't getting any. If I were to order one I'd get the sport model Sedan with TRD shocks and sway bars. I have surchased every dealer in Washington and if they have one its not the Sport model, you well only get a Sport model if you order it. Toyota is offering no rebates or incentives on the Yaris so that means they are in demand now. 2012 Yaris there well be an LE SE YRS
YRS well be totally loaded.

I've been looking around as well. Many dealers in my area (southern california) only have about 1 or 2 in stock and the bigger dealerships have maybe 3-4 tops. Everyone says stock on Yaris is low because of the earthquake. Good luck finding one!

This seems like the perfect opportunity for me to make my first post....I took delivery of my 2011 2dr HB today, in Absolute Red. It was a tough one to locate, equipped with 4 speed AT, power pkg, and cruise AND the dealer who had it was reluctant to trade it out to my local dealer, but it's in the garage now, and I'm delighted with my selection! I believe it was the only one of its color/type in the region.

We have an 09 Scion xD which has been a wonderful automobile too.

Glad to be here, I spend a lot of time on various motorcycle and scooter forums, and hope to learn a lot of "Yaris" here, and maybe even make a contribution too!

OP....keep shopping, they are rare, but they are out there....equopped as you like! Worth the hunt, IMO.

For some reason There are an abnormal amount of Yaris for sale on Craigslist SF. 3 pages,100 cars per page
I would definitely give the used market another try as these cars are bullet proof and wont really differ in quality between new and used

I'm not surprised it's difficult to find one. Small cars, in general seem to be difficult to find. The Toyota dealer we went to had only 2 Yarii on the lot, a 3 door and a sedan. I wanted a 5 door, so we had to have them bring in one from another dealer. While I was pretty much set on buying a Yaris we wanted to test drive some other small cars. The Honda dealer we went to only had a demonstrator Fit and of the 2 Hyundai dealers we went to one had no Accents and the other had 2 with manual transmissions. We were told they practically fly off the lots.
