HELP (!) Left My Windows OPEN in Heavy Rain...!!!
It was blazing hot this afternoon, so I left all the windows open at about 2.5 inches. Then we took my girlfriend's car to a restaurant that was 45 minutes away. It rained hard for about 15 minutes straight according to my roommate... When I got back, it had stopped raining. The window gauges were soaked, so I wiped them up very quickly and tested them. They're fine. Shockingly, the carpeting and seats were only slightly damp. I lifted the floor mats and it wasn't wet underneath at all. So questions:
- the window switches probably took the biggest hit... does anyone know if they drain somewhere? Like drain holes? - is there any risk of mildew/rotting? It's mostly sunny at 89 degrees tomorrow, so I'm gonna lower my windows while I am at work and let that shit sit in the sun. Hope my Yaris isn't ruined. |

The doors themselves should have drain holes in them at the bottom. The two fronts on my car has about four holes if I recall correctly. I wouldn't worry about it...

Buy vent shades/rainguards for your car. Then you would have hardly any issues.

PM CTScott. He knows the anatomy of the Yaris like there's no tomorrow.

2.5 isn't too bad, with rain guards it's about an inch exposed area.

There are thick sound absorbing mats under the front carpet that can absorb an incredible amount of water. When I pulled Crashy's carpet (which wasn't wet to the touch) they were completely saturated. Sitting with the windows open in the hot sun will help, but you might want to stick a household dehumidifier in the car (with the windows up) for a night or two. I left my Xterra's windows down in the rain a couple of Summers ago, and did the dehumidifier trick. I pulled over a gallon of water out of the car overnight.
The dehumidifier will also help with drying out the innards of the window switches.

Dehumidifier's a great idea. I used bath towels and a shop vac in my Saturn once. Put car on the ramps so all the water rolled to the back.....

Hmm...
No household dehumidifier here... I'll just take out the floor mats and crack the windows 3-4 inches while I am at work tomorrow. Direct sunlight, no shade. I'm hoping for high heat and very dry temps. So do you think there can be any permanent damage/rotting/rusting anywhere? If the interior is soaked, then my windshield should be ultra foggy and wet on the inside in the morning, right? |
