Any tips on HID's?

Im thinking about getting some 6K projection HID's. I want 8K HID's but will i get a ticket for those?

you'll get a ticket for having HIDs period. If it doesn't come with the car, it's illegal. That being said, a lot of people have HID kits without issue. But 8000k (ridiculous blue) will get you noticed a lot more than 6000k (slightly less blue)

Your visibility will probably be worse with 8000k compared to halogen. Don't go any higher than 6000k, preferably 4300k or 5000k and projectors are a must with aftermarket HIDs.

Go 4300K or 5000K. Any higher (even 6000K) is going to reduce your visibility. It's not about how many lumens of light are thrown onto the road, it's about what the human eye can see clearly, and that range is between 4300K-5000K.

I mostly wanted the 6k because the blue tint it has to it. Does the 5k have any blue in it? Also is it incredibly bright?

...yeah. They're all whiter than standard halogens, but if all you're after is color, then I guess just do what you're gonna do.

5k doesn't really have any.. but it varies with manufacturer. 6k will be the best bet for you if you want both visibility and colour

Stick with 5000k. And buy Garms HID kit....i vouch for them since...end of 2008.

The kit itself from Garm is awesome. The retrofit process, not so much.

Also, I already don't care for 6K. The light is pretty white with just a hint of blue, but the bounce back off road reflectors and signs is pretty violet. And I don't like that.

retrofits go better when you know what youre doing...

4300k will give you the best light output....and if garm gets the same kits i do, then you have the option of 4300k or 6000k...there is no 5000k

the refraction of the light in the curved part of the projector housings will give you that blue look you want regardless of the colour of the light output...

i sell a lot of hid's locally and i get a lot of young people asking me for "the same colour as a bmw". well, the lights in a bmw are 4300k....its the way the light bends at the edges of the projectors that give it that blue-purple look at certain angles.

I always have used 8000K and can see fine and have never had issues with the po po's. :)

They're not bright blue they are more bright white/purple.

Also the HID's i have are like regular bulbs when you turn them on but HID when you use the high beams, my fog lights are also HID made sure they are pointing down.
