car crash

i was in a car accident last week - where i hit wet gravel going around a sharp corner and spun into a metal pole .. from what i can see, the only major damage is my driver door where the car slammed against the pole, caving in the door and shattering the window... the door definitely needs to be replaced, but the rest of the car seems ok.

what are the estimates for a new 2007 white yaris (5 door) hatchback door with powered windows? anyone? :(

You can't put a price on love!

Pending the mileage, and whether it's coming from a dealer I'd say 8-10. That's for my area; I'm not too sure about Canada haha.

hey buddy, first all i'm sorry your crashed and i hope your ok. i did a search online and couldnt find a replacment door anywhere here in Michigan. if you have a junk yard near by i would call them tomorrow and see if they have one and even if its a different color have it painted at a shop. im sure its easy to install. if you have insurance on your car they might cover it after you pay a deductable. also did any air bags open during the crash? we have a law in MI that states a person cannot drive a car with a popped air bag, you must replace it. im not sure if thats just a state law or if its every where.

He hit wet gravel around a sharp curve. Even the best of drivers aren't a great pair with gravel and curves.

Do people just look at pictures and then figure they must know what happened?

I sure would slow down with either gravel or the curve .. to me this is what the "good driver" means.. not to mention the "best driver"

Do you live in the city?

I live in the sticks - here, gravel roads are all over and they aren't always easily seen. Growing up driving on gravel roads you know how to prepare yourself if you hit them ... sometimes that doesn't even help. Gravel is gravel - it moves, and it slides. It really can f you up if you're not careful, and since you can't always tell if there is gravel in the middle of a turn, you don't always go in expecting it to be there.

So please, don't assume he is a wreckless driver - you can easily be driving along a perfectly normal road and for whatever reason 1/2 way through a curve BAM - gravel and loose rock.

Not everyone who gets in a single-car accident is some Fast and Furious, down-shifting, irresponsible teenager looking for speed and danger.

You forgot "perfect drivers who can control their vehicle no matter what the circumstance" in there.

And yup, it does. Sadly ... yes, it does.

britalexis, glad to hear that you are okay. Hopefully you find a new door pretty easily and are back on the road soon.

Don't worry about the naysayers here, after all it's called a car accident for a reason!

okay fake demigod, pretend you are on the road you drive every single day. The one that is paved, the one you have never seen sand or dirt or gravel on. Pretend it was raining the night before, but it stopped before you woke up.

So on this day you go around a curve you've gone around thousands of times, and all of a sudden in the middle of the curve you see wet gravel. A lot, a little, in this situation, anything more than a dozen or so pieces of rock is too much. Now if you, like any normal person, hits their brakes, you are screwed. you hit your brakes, you hit the wet gravel, you completely lose control, you crash.

Obviously you have never dealt with driving on gravel. It is just as bad, if not worse, than black ice. At least with black ice you know if it is cold it is probably there. With gravel you might never see it at all until the last second. And if you do the normal last second thing of slamming on the brakes you are screwed.

Pretend to be a human and show some compassion. The dude is upset he just got into an accident. Something he had no control over no matter how slow or reasonably he was driving. And then you as a jackass with zero clue come on here and attack him.

it is obvious you think you are some internet tough guy. Guess what, you are an internet fool, and obvious troll. Please go join the other trolls and go hide under a bridge or a rock somewhere.

I agree that anything can happen but still think that speed was the case here.. As I said above I am gald the thread started only crashed his car's door

Sort of off-topic: spent most of my life in the City of Vladivostok which is in the Eastern part of Russia.. typical winter roads look like below. (the city can not afford to buy the fleet of snow removing vehicles as well as chemicals to melt ice on the roads.. the city also has lots of hills).. during the summer period, the roads have lots of big and small holes..long story short.. it is very difficult to surprise me with anything in the middle of the road ))

"internet fool", "trol", and "jackass with zero clue" is more than enough to offend me..no need to write 5 paragraphs..
