looking for small improvements
So I got a larger exhaust, sway bar, cai. Looking for the next incremental hp increase. What to look at is the question. I was thinking headers, but what are the benefits vs cons? Loss of low end torque would be very bad. Open to suggestions.

Header, well, personally I always ran the stock one, but those who swapped theirs seem more than happy with them. Look around, there's been lots of discussions...
My choice would be a lightened crank pulley. If your car is manual you will feel a nice difference. It won't actually make your car much faster, but it will feel so much better to drive!

^ Crank pulley and header are nice upgrades, I just did both of those last week. the pulley will help the engine spoil or rev better and easier and the header will help it exhale better thus increasing horse power. I can feel the difference in my car and the header also adds some higher rpm noise from where you can hear the exhaust rushing through it but after an axle back and a CAI it isn't easily noticeable. some ECU rests and some getting used to and my cars estimated whp will be between 106 and 112hp and fuel inefficiency will be creaping up on the 50mpg range average, right now i can get that high way easy will maintaining speed limits. I would suggest looking and seeing what stock header you have first and if you have one like mine in my
then get the pulley instead and hold off on the header but, if yours is like Tooter's ![]() then get the header. i suggest megan racing, biggest diameter and MI has a great price on it, also bet the stud kit it makes the install nice.

Light pulley is nice.
But like so many have said make your car lighter It helps ex: any thing in the trunk you don't need, perhaps rear seat removeal Replace stock front seats with light weight race seats. Lighter car better acceleration, better stopping and cornering. Quick shifter is nice add on my 2cents

The Megan header will also pair up with another product we're coming out with, that I can't mention quite yet.

Frankly the centripital forces on the pully are such that at 3k rpm i doubt there is a dimes worth of difference in 12 or 20 oz. Seriously it is about torque and hp not essoterics at this poi t. The header I get, but withoutthe midpipe it has no tangible effect since the diameter is choked off...fluid dynamics within a cylinder not coolness determines flow rates. And if i did install a header that sucked more air, i would lose torque since my engines cannot suck more than normal without some induction force...i do not have money for a turbo at this time.
I know all the old school tricks, but none apply to the yaris...4 barrel carb, 3/4 cam, bored out with high compresion pistons, 4/11 rear end...blah blah blah. I was thinking there was something, but nothing I see will do short of a turbo. As for 50 mph...what? From a header? Dude that's called a bong, not a header...to get that mpg, he is doing 35 on the freeway. I want to get more zip off the line, more torque in second gear...but I am poor. And Ive been drinking, so if this is harsh it is the beer talking...but you get the drift... |

You are also forgetting a few things. Probably the beer. We could start with the weight of the car. A lightweight vehicle benefits more from small gains than a heavy one. This was your original request -- Quote:

Is there really a measurable difference in torque or hp with a weight change of that much? Seems incredible.
I think I just frustated that my database is obsolete. Otherwise id just drop in a new cam and lifter springs. Oh wait! VVTi. The only issue I have with my yaris is that dead spot between first and second where it lags in normal driving. Now the more I think--as opposed to drink--about the problem, the less I really think I can do much about it. I still need to see the dyno data before I beleive in the pully. |

had a couple mate that had the same model car. sr20de one had cat back exhaust... the other had header back... same intake, same ride height and same model
the car with header back exhaust was able to get to 210km/hr. the one with the cat back could get to 180ish... and cat back would lose acceleration from around 160ish hope that helps with headers... |

you can feel the difference in the pulley set. The car feels lighter and it revs easier. Just like lighter wheels make a huge difference when you put them on, lighter pulleys do the same thing. As does a lighter flywheel.
People don't do these mods because they look good. They replace parts like pulleys and flywheels because they make the car feel faster, and they help more power go to the ground. If you want to pay for the dyno pulls I'll have them dynoed. Holding both the stock and aftermarket pulleys in my hand the weight difference feels massive.

So...no one has any proof of lighter pullies increasing anything? I have to pay for dyno cause no one has done it? Everyone simply assumes it works? Pa--lease!
Does no one question anything? |

After spending 5 minutes on google, here's a dyno of a full pulley set that gained a maximum of 4.5hp on a civic:
http://www.importtuner.com/powerpage...s/viewall.html I have a lightweight flywheel waiting to go on, but im personally not sold on pulleys for two reasons: 1) the weight is already fairly close to the center, compared to a flywheel 2) You lose the harmonic dampener, if the OEM pulley has one (not sure if this is the case for the Yaris)

Pulleys aren't really going to give you a measurable improvement in horsepower, but you will feel the difference. In my personal opinion, it was the best bang for the buck mod I put on my car, made it feel far less sluggish. Following that would be a short shifter and associated bushings, also no HP improvement but made the car that much more fun.
Remember, horsepower is not the only thing that counts when driving a car! If you're dead-set on seeing improvements on the dyno, then header is your best bet. DC Sport's seems to be the most well-liked, and seems the best constructed out of the available ones. After that, getting more horsepower gets tricky. You could open up your exhaust more with some custom piping, or use a Camcon unit to tweak the VVT-i, find Jason@SportsCar's thread on this, they managed to squeeze out an extra 13 or so hp. More than that, and you'lll have to go all out with a high compression engine build, or go turbo. Either way you'll also need some proper tuning, so your wallet's the limit!
