Here's what the FIT ended up with . The low fuel light came on about 2 miles before the fill of SUNOCO 87w/E10 . Took 8.985 gallons at 1 click of nozzle (10.6 gallon tank ) . 348.6 miles on this tank . Forgot to get a pic of that . This is a base model with 5 speed auto . Four Blizzak WS60s at 35 p.s.i.. Use Honda Genuine 0w-20 ( SN/GF-5 ) synthetic motor oil which is produced by Kendall . The calculated mileage is 38.79 . The bottom pics are beginning of new tank . Drive home is long gradual climb and then about 2 1/2 mile descent .

I've noticed the bars aren't too accurate. At first I tried using them to calculate mpg and I was wondering why some bars would give me 70 mpg while others might give me 19 or so. Sometimes I lose bars when the engine isn't even turned on when I'm just sitting in the car.

i average 75 miles on first bar and about 50 miles per bar after that. that equates to about 38 mpg.

This time it went 95 miles before losing the first bar . Eco is showing 40.2 m.p.g.. It should be better than that since it usually reads lower than the calculated gas mileage . Set at 95 for now .

. Keep it a going . Give us pics as the gas tank , tanks . Especially when you lose the 2nd bar . Usually it's sooner . I'll say 40 miles or so . Thanks .

I've gotten 125-130 miles out of my first bar a couple of times before with 17's on, short ram intake, and exhaust. lol. (07 sedan, stick shift).

I think that was all freeway. All city driving, I'll get 70-80 out of the first bar, and highway driving, I get 60-70 out of the first bar.

Pics from tonight : Top is Yaris , bottom is FIT . Both now have the all seasons . Yaris has the Continental Pro Contact Eco Plus and the FIT are the DUNLOP SP31 A/S . The Eco Plus are much better than the SP31s.

Filled up the '11 base model FIT w/ 5 speed auto with HESS 87w/E10 at 1 click of nozzle and ended up with 38.866 m.p.g. which was SUNOCO 87w/E10 . The display has been a bit lower than the calculated gas mileage . The tank was at 1/4 ( forgot to get that before refill ) . Some it was with the Blizzak WS60s ( mostly Dunlop SP31 set at 36 or was it 35.5 ? ) , 2 of us for little over 1/2 of the 284 miles , winds up to 15 m.p.h. , and many steep hills . City driving of 25% and speeds up to 70 on interstate . Average speed of 48 . Pics : ( 2 @ bottom are when got home ) :

Filled up the sedan earlier and got 40.5 m.p.g. calculated with unknown 87 w/E10 . Ended up with 41 on Eco-Meter when got home . Was at 43 , but some steep hills put an end to that . Probably won't post until there's gas mileage of 43 or better .

It also depends on if you overfill the tank as well, because the gauge in the tank only goes so high.
The 'overfill' issue would explain why the 'first bar drop' on my tanks occurs at a mileage point beyond what it seems to be most people are experiencing on this thread. My best is a first bar drop was a bit over 140 miles and my worst was at about 98 miles. I rarely drop below 115-120 re first bar drops. I fill my tank all the way to the top so that my MPG calculations are relevant from tank to tank. This would also explain why (after long ago running out of gas while pulling into a gas station to fuel my Yaris and filling all the way to the top as I usually do) I know that my Yaris will take 12.777 gallons, which is more than stated in the specifications for the Yaris.

You are also in Houston, which means the rubber bladder will always be larger than almost everyone else in the USA. I generally fill to the second click, because I've never been able to trust the first one.

...that 12.777 gallon fill up was actually in the SF Bay area and I had been there for a few months when that happened, but yes most of the times that I have come close to that total have been near Houston. I fill my tank to the top of the neck so that the gas level has just become visible.

Arrow PLEASE READ THIS....YARIS inTO PRIUS SECRETS...ROAD WISDOM..

thr first bar is about 2.4 gallons. most blogs complain about the gauge is not " EVEN" when using fuel. your scangauge for about 43 mpg sounds about right. My 2010 auto 4 speed gets that but heres how you might get more.... DONT OVER FILL STOP AT FIRST SHUT OFF PULL BACK SLIGHTLY TO LET VAPOR ESCAPE AND FILL TO NEXT SHUT OFF OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THE GASKETS AND NECK LINER ON THE TANK......ITS FULL>>>>DONT DAMAGE YOUR YARIS....IT"LL COST YOU BIG-TIME....

1. make sure air and oil filters are clean if not take to gas station and blow out air with air hose if still gray or brown...replace.

2. dino oil is fine check with trusted mechanic about swich to synthetic may only get 2-3 more per gallon .Weigh that with cost to see if thats good increse . or stick with Dino oil changes...do them like the manual says.

3. I dont over inflate my tires ever. mine are 195-15 size and the sidewall says 52 max. psi. Im at 37-38 psi ride is comfy. you can inflate to reduce road friction but tires will wear faster so keep them within the specs.. ...guess which is more expensive tires later, or gas right now.... ( answer...tires and rubber cost)

4. use what the epa calls "TOP TIER" gasoline. I get 3-5 miles a gallon better with chevron which has the techro "lean" additive your paing extra for now ...and union 76 is good for small engines too. they have less fuel fillers and more additives that make the engine run and stay cleaner....remember, its the long haul your engine is looking for...

FINALY... DONT BE A DRAG.... remove un-needed junk from the trunk. keep the spare if you must but with an auto club card or fix a flat can you might do better on milage. keep short errands togther to save gas.

LOOK AT YOU TUBE for eathier hypermiling tips or prius drive techniques ( which is why prius goes so far on gas... the dashboard is training the driver to "hypermile" and gives a video game to play for about 24K.

The Yaris 1.5L engine is the same type as the prius c and the drag weight and other specs are pretty close to your yaris...the main diffrence beside low resistance tires and a little trimer body ... IS YOU AND HOW YOU CAN MAKE YOUR YARIS INTO A PRIUS, PRESTO... WITH KNOWLAGE...NOT TECHNO TRICKS. BE PROUD OF YOUR YARIS....ITS THE SECRET LOVE CHILD BETWEEN A CAMRY AND A PRIUS. ITS STRONG like dad AND SIPS GAS LIKE MOM....ENJOY
