Super Bowl Predictions

Any thoughts on the upcoming super bow matchup? Who do you think is gonna win? Of course as a bostonian i am a HUGE New England fan, but unfortunately my Pats wont be competing this year, so of course i'm going to root against the team that defeated my beloved Pats.... so go Niners and Colin!

I love your cogent, intelligent posts....but I DESPISE your team ! Kraft is a classy owner, but I can't stand Belichick and Brady (Brady for reasons that have nothing to do with his football prowess). If I could wish for anything over the next 5+ years re the NFL, it would be that Brady never gets another ring (and THAT is purely for on field reasons). I'm a lifelong 49ers and Raiders fan and always want to still be able to say that Montana is the best QB ever (unless Colin surpasses him!) I think Montana would be the only QB with 5 SB rings and the only 3-peat if Craig hadn't fumbled in the 1990 season NFC championship Game (the worst moment in 49ers history IMO).....Go Niners!

i'd like to see new orleans nuked during halftime. or if not that, at least the 49ers putting up 60 or so on the team full of thugs. the ravens are going to be poster boys for anyone who wants to win a lawsuit against the nfl for safety. Just a short film reel, and no jury will think the NFL gives a damn about safety.

I live here and have to agree, New Orleans has some good qualities, but the good comes nowhere close to making up for the bad. Probably the most corrupt city in the United States.

Has a lot more rebuilding been done since 2008 ? I spent almost a month there in 2008 volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. I worked in the Florida neighborhood in the 9th Ward and in Musician's Village. I didn't get over to the West Bank (going over the Crescent City Bridge), but I drove all over the rest of the city and through most of St. Bernard's Parish -- From the Orleans parish line through Arabi, Chalmette, Violet etc., down to Camp Hope in St. Bernard. I took thousands of pictures. I was amazed at how little had been done in the 3 years (at that time) since Katrina. Despite it's problems, there is something about New Orleans that just pulls me in. It isn't a dull place to visit.

I moved here after 2008, so its hard for me to judge how much has improved. However, I can say Arabi and Chalmette look like something you'd see in a third world country, I was in Chalmette just last week and could not believe how run down it was, and I've lived near some bad places in my life.

A company called Onboard Informatics compiles lots of stats for each zip code in the U.S. that is at least somewhat residential (some post offices have their own zip codes so there isn any info for those, and there are other exceptions. I remember looking at that info before driving to St. Bernard. The income level in both the Lower 9th on the Northwest side of the Parish line and Arabi on the Southeast side of the Parish line are both very low, yet one side has a crime rate through the roof and the other side vey low. Both sides being racially nearly homogenous with different majorities in each. When I later drove through the area (and I can't remember if I was driving on LA 39 or LA 46) there was a St. Bernard Parish 'Law Enforcement' Substation literally just a few feet over the line into St. Bernard Parish. It was eerie. Almost like a checkpoint. First time I'd had that feeling in the U.S. (and I've been to the worst parts of LA, SF, Oakland, Richmond CA, Philadelphia, NYC, DC, Camden NJ, and Patterson NJ. Only the worst part of Mobile, AL has given me that feeling since.

So many damaged areas of Orleans Parish had damaged, twisted, and rotted out buildings, but some semblance of a building was often there. In contrast parts of Arabi, and other parts of St. Bernard Parish looked like the destroyed parts of Biloxi (near the beach)....just flattened.

As a Giants fan the Ravens whipped our butts in the SuperBowl played in 2000. Also Ray Lewis was involved in some way in a mans murder that he has never fully explained. Although the NFL allows him to play so maybe its not bad. I dont know.

The 49ers and the Giants have fought to a draw on a very high level numerous times. We've gotten the better of them and theyve gotten the better of us about the same number of times.

I am a fan of neither team so I will just have to be happy in the knowledge one of them will LOSE!

As to an unbiased opinion who will win I really cant say. The 49ers are excellent on offense and defence and their new quarterback (who doesnt have much experience at all) has an amazing touch on the ball and is a threat to run if the play breaks down. They are an outstanding organization with excellent coaching.

The Ravens were going nowhere this year until they beat the Giants in week 16. Since then I have been waiting for them to fall on their face but it hasnt happened. They beat the Broncos and they beat the Patriots both in away games. Kind of like the Giants did last year and in 08.

To top it off my son in law is a Ravens fan. He makes $250,000 a year and my wife and I are looking at losing our jobs in our old age so its not like I can afford to argue with him.

Prediction: An awesome game with a lot of lead changes and come from behind charges.

Ravens 20 49er 17.

I want the Ravens to win but I still do not believe that their defense will find a way to stop the 49ers QB Kaepernick. He's too nimble, fast, and he has shown signs of making insanely accurate passes. The 49ers just have too much offensive weapons to be stopped. I voted for the Ravens but my heart is telling me it will be a blow-out.

Being a Giants fan these past five years has been an awesome priveledge. How many teams have won in the playoffs for their fans like the Giants have?

None that come to mind right away...

On the other hand....

Ive never seen a team lose so badly during the regular season and STILL get to the playoffs and then actually play well enough to win the SuperBowl!

TWICE!!!

Thats why my pick is for the Ravens. Theyre doing what the Giants did.

On the other hand...

The 49ers could blow them out. Their quarterback is outstanding most of the time and they have consistant defense.

And don't you guys get the privilege of hosting the first outdoor Super Bowl in a cold weather location (either ever or at least since the merger) for Super Bowl 48 ?....or is it 49 ?

It is an awesome feeling isn't it. I felt that way from the 1980 season through the 1989 season when my 2 teams won 6 Super Bowls. plus the Lakers championships in the 80s.....not to mention baseball in 1989...my 2 teams playing each other..I couldn't lose. I feel bad for people whose teams never win a championship when my 6 teams (49ers and Raiders, Lakers and Warriors, Giants and A's) have won 26 championships (possibly 27 after Sunday) in the last 40 years.

I started watching the Giants in 1979 Phil Sims first year and had to wait until 1987 to see them win it all.

A lot of people didnt think the Giants could win a SB before that.

How is it not interesting? I find it pretty cool that two brothers are going head to head as coaches in the big dance. Neither QB made it to the ProBowl, Also it is really nice to not see the same ole same ole teams. I am pretty tired of seeing the Pats, Steelers, Giants, Green Bay, etc playing in it. I honestly don't understand how folks back in the 60s anf 70s didn't get bored for example with the NBA championships with how many years the Celtics were in it. Sure, I would love to see my Vikings in the Super Bowl and preferably not choke as it their MO, but also wouldn't be enthused if they made a big run of several years necessarily. The Ravens have an established brute force team and the 49ers have an up and coming finesse team. Could be lots of fun to watch or it could be a train wreck for sure, but my biggest gripe is when one team just takes the other to the cleaners. That isn't any fun at all to watch.
