Remove the #/ portion of the URLs and they work fine...

Welcome to Oakland...the reason why I stay away from Oakland and Richmond. Bad enough I live next to Vallejo.

Lol, I lived in Vallejo for three years. What a shithole that place is. The sad part is that Mare Island could be amazing if they took the time and developed it and the waterfront area right. The same thing can be said for Oakland and Richmond, although Richmond is a lost cause.

These videos sum up Vallejo perfectly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ6-n06DoSc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz7bhAS9Qoo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpvMD_VYyDk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HrUXZa2Xh0

I sold my house in one of the safest zip codes in the Bay Area in 2006. Before selling it, I found a place on Craigslist. My original idea was to just keep a place until I started a long trip later in the year. The Craigslist place I found was so cheap overall and so incredibly cheap for the location that I decided to keep it indefinitely, even after moving to Texas. The place was a 1br, 1ba + living room guest house with a 180 degree view of the bay. Unfortunately, towards the end of my trip I got an e-mail from the master tenant telling with a date they would be moving out because they would be closing on a house they bought. The owner offered me the whole property, but I had no need for that much space. The property was way up at the top of East Richmond Heights --- one of the few areas of Richmond that (at that time) was below the national average re overall crime. I felt safe. The mayor lived nearby and our area got a lot of patrol time. Despite feeling safe, sounds carried from the flatlands of Richmond up to the top of the hills and nearly every night I could hear the sound of gunfire coming from the flatlands. Whenever I hear about crime in Richmond or people wanting to avoid Richmond, I think about that gunfire.

Re Oakland, the parts east of Hwy 13 in the hills used to be completely safe, but some people I know who live there don't feel as safe as they used to.....and they are getting reamed re taxes. In one area there are (including bonds, parcel taxes, school assessments, etc.) 17 different items on the property tax bill.

When a developer started building houses along the Blue Rock Springs Golf Course up in the hills in the late 90s I thought about buying one and renting it out, but I decided against it (and am glad I did). That was a fairly safe area at the time, unlike the flatlands of Vallejo. The flatlands of Vallejo may someday be as bad as the flatlands of Richmond. Re difference in crime statistics between two areas that abut each other, the difference between Arabi and the part of the lower 9th Ward that abuts it makes me think of the difference between American Canyon and the part of Vallejo that abuts it (called 'The Crest' if I remember correctly)....and the difference between Lakeview and Metairie. The fact that these are county (in CA) and parish (in LA) borders likely has something to do with it.

I read this thread just after midnight and then realized I was more fatigued than I thought and decided to write replies in the afternoon. One of my first thoughts, right after first reading the thread and watching the videos, was 'I wonder if they'll eventually get caught'. Earlier today, while behind the wheel of my Yaris, I was listening to the Car Pro radio show. Jerry said they have a video of the week (on their website I imagine) and this week the video is.......of those kids on I-880 in Oakland. Jerry said "the police are NOT amused" and that the police "GUARANTEE" they will get the people involved....and that MANY cell phone cameras recorded the activities that transpired.
