Filling the Yaris with Gas from a Gas Can - Toyota Yaris Forums

I was trying to fill my Yaris with gas I earned with fuel perks today with one of the new gas cans. What a joke.

I couldn't get it to stop leaking at the gasket and the flow out of the can, well it is more of a dribble. I saw this video as a "work around" these issues. I thought I would check and see if any of you out there have a better solution.

Our local supermarket lets you earn points for gas discounts. When you use the points you can get up to 35 gallons at the discounted price, so to take full advantage I bring four 5 gallon cans and fill up the Yaris and all of them. Then, at home I refill my Yaris from the cans. I use one of the hand siphon pumps, like the one below to avoid making a mess. I set the gas can on one of my Rubbermaid trash cans, which puts the can at the perfect height. You only have to squeeze the siphon until it starts to flow, then it continues on its own.

The Celica is mine. The Lotus belongs to a client. He installed a turbo kit on it that came with a custom standalone ECM. The standalone doesn't support any type of OBD comm and the car is due for emissions testing (which is done here by OBD). I developed a device which emulates the OEM ECM and interfaces to all of the sensors, thus allowing a vehicle with a standalone to be fully OBD compliant.

Try filling the tank with an actual racing fuel can like the VP one! You spill fuel at 15 bucks a gallon and it actually puts you in a state of shock! I wonder if I could use that apparatus that Scott uses?

My rig would work fine for you (particularly since you are not doing pit style crazy fast refuels).

At $15 a gallon, I would park the car on a large pan and use a turnkey baster to pick up every spilled drop.
