Yeah, I've read that article in the past. More folks need to be exposed to it. I worked a short stint at a quick oil change joint & it's infuriating that they still print their 'reminder' stickers for 3mo/3,000 miles. The educated motoring public knows that it's bull but the ones that are uneducated, continue to be misled.

I'd definitely like to see if Toyota is recommending 10k intervals (much like they came around to eventually recommending 5W-20) in the 1NZ.

You have to read the small print on Mobil1's Extended Performance products. If you are:
1) under warranty
2) severe duty
Then, don't do extended oil change intervals or exceed manufacturers recommendations.

With AMSOIL, the severe duty interval is 15,000 (whether your vehicle is under factory warrant or not does not matter) and normal duty is 25,000 (but the Yaris' little oil filter will have to be changed along the way to 25k just because it's so small, it doesn't have the capacity that a larger oil filter has).

And let's be honest, a lot of people are falling under the severe duty classification and don't even realize it.

What makes you want to go to 0W-30 instead of a 20wt oil? You might gain a little efficiency only when the engine is cold by dropping that first number. As soon as you're up to operating temperature, you're still pushing around a 30wt oil. So, overall, your benefit will be small. Since Toyota says we can run 5W-20, that would be a lot better bang for the fuel-miser-buck. With 5W-20, you'll be pushing a thinner oil at operating temperature which is where most everyone's car is normally. That right there will yield a much better payoff.
