Seriously, there are quite a few different brands and quality levels. Lots of reports of leaks, people returning to their cars and finding flat tires, etc. Search for 'tire check valve cap reviews' - there are links to numerous sites.

Old school here, using a quality tire pressure gauge & shop air tank here.

I thought it might be a hassle free, intentionally low tech way of being able to see the current PSI without having to take the caps off and use my gauge. However, given your sentence above, I think I'll just throw this in the dustbin of ideas .

Probably better off doing it the 'old-fashioned way' - From what I could find there were several sets of various quality...don't think I would trust them.

I think you're right, unless one goes for the product that 1.5 linked to (or something else at that level...Orange product about $130 on Amazon vs the $20 product I linked to).
