I heard those kind of rubber floor mats have a very strong petroleum smell that's really annoying. Try searching for reviews. They look very Blue Light Special K-Mart all the way to me. I say hold out and get some quality Toyota mats.

It's true, but it fades. As for the looks, while I don't love the ones linked up above, I've certainly seen rubber mats that looked nice enough. Personal tastes may differ, obviously.

I do wish Toyota offered something a bit more durable than carpet for our cars, though.

Not a clue. I haven't seen anything that I am impressed with. I say read online reviews and go with the most liked best looking you can find if this is a necessity for you.
